I know its not a Camaro, but im trying to get as much help as I can.

I need some help with a decent setup. right now I have a bad one. I've got a 70 chevelle, 355, cast flat tops, 882 heads, comp 292h,torker intake, Saginaw 4 speed, and a 3.08 open rear end. I know I don't have much compression, maybe 8.5-1 and that's why the cam isn't working good (along with the gears).what should I do first? I know I need a smaller cam, any suggestions? I'd like to try a solid cam if possible. I was planing on down the road getting some vortec heads and 3.55 or 3.73 gears, but that's going to be a little while. I'd like to try and do something with what I have until I can get some heads and more gear. This is going to be a street car with maybe a trip to the track every now and then.any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mert

Well an obvious fix would be your 3.08 open rear. Thats killing you. Go deeper in the gears and get a posi. My neighbors wife has a 67 camaro with a 350 and a saginaw 4 speed that has between 8 and 8.5:1 compression and her car runs real well with a hydraulic 230/230 @.050 with .480 lift. She runs a 4.11 gear out back. She also runs a weiand stealth intake. It idles well has ton of torque. And my neighbor who is very expierenced with racing says he knows it would run a solid 13 sec. quarter. I would recommend getting a dual plane of some sort, go to a swap meet and look for a used Edelbrock RPM manifold, there plentiful and usually cheap. I sold a perfectly good one for 35 bucks here a while back. Oh yeah, one more thing, that Saginaw is not going to hold up with slicks and power shifting. Id be looking for somthing more durable or save up for a Richmond T10 or somthing cause 1 power shift into second with some slicks and good power and shes toast. I forget the exact reason but i believe Reverse and 2nd gear are in the same cluster or somthing weird like that anyways somone else can give a better reason why.

Thanks for the reply.

I've got an Edelbrock SP2P, I don't know if its worth using or not, looks like a predecessor to the performer. It probly is beter than the torker on the street.

I've been trying to be easy on the tranny I do have a t-10 out of a 78 Trans Am that will probably replace the Saginaw when it goes.

I agree with you on the gears I would like to change them. I just don't have a place to do it and I'm new to the area and I don't know were to take it. Anyone live in southwest Virginia?
