View Full Version : 1969 Van Nuys RS Z/28
ChevyThunder Jun 24th, 08, 08:52 AM Supposedly an all original survivor Van Nuys RS Z/28 .....unfortunately it is not, but it is a real Z. Le Mans Blue O1D build . Someone decked and re stamped the motor :( and trans has been replaced....BU 12 bolt with proper date that is probably original to car. Has proper fuel line and the "build sheet" they had turns out to be the carpet tag :) So nothing to really to clinch that it is a real Z even though everything I see externally indicates that it is , fuel line, leaf springs, torched shifter hole etc. So I say to heck with it and we drop the tank.... and yes it was there. Problem , tanks sticker is in bad shape and a 1/4 of it is welded to the tank. I can't read a build sheet well but I did find a section with UH which is a Z/28 radiator code so I have a real Z on my hands .
No rust body in excellent shape after being off the road and stored inside for almost 20 years in the desert of California . 7K tach with 6K redline. Le Mans Blue with 712 interior. All the wood grain on the dash is intact and original and in excellent condition. All original glass perfect. All original interior that needs some attention. Flat hood car with no rear spoiler , though one has been added. Console gauge car . All the original YH wheels, jack. Another unfortunate... the guy chromed everything including the alt so if it is a 837 I can't even tell. T-3s still intact .Original 472 intake . A few NOS parts... Need to go through the parts to see what is really there.
I will post photos when I get home. Curious what everyone thinks it is worth in today's market.
Hylton Jun 24th, 08, 09:04 AM Nice find Van! Try and get the rest of that build sheet off the tank. Pour WD40 over what is stuck and let it soak for a bit. Everything should come off if you are careful.
BTW - Did you really need another 69 Z? ;)
T-Man Jun 24th, 08, 09:34 AM I had removed mine by taking clear tape and taping the section were it is stuck. Make sure the surface is clean and press the tape against the paper really well. I then took a sharp razor and slowly scrapped off the paper. It worked great and I then framed the broadcast sheet. You may also want it to sit in the sun after you finish taping it to soften the adhesive that is on there. Good Luck.
wiskeesour Jun 24th, 08, 09:58 AM Not as much as we'd like with the motor re-stamped and the tranny gone...

al8apexer Jun 25th, 08, 09:39 AM show us your white cowl (all Van Nuys Z28s had the top of the cowl painted stripe color), that is the EZ way to determine is a "real" (as produced by GM) Z28 or not ... (68's too)

The whole engine compartment/cowl has been painted a nice gloss back to better accent all the parts the previous owner was going to put on the car...70 early 80's style:) The hood hinges are chrome plated and the hood springs are gold plated ... yeah baby !!

Fred Ficarra Jun 26th, 08, 11:27 AM Ya know, I put those Moroso chrome fender bars on mine. But the originals are ready to go. I think today might be the day!
ChevyThunder Jun 26th, 08, 12:41 PM The deciding factor for me to buy this car is the picture below... I pulled this pristine plate out of the back seat and said, " no matter how much this car costs I got to have this " !!

Hispanic mechanic Jun 28th, 08, 09:15 AM Van have you come up with a price yet? that 69 is just what I am looking for.I am the guy DJD introduced with the resto shop in San Jose.
36j1967 Jun 28th, 08, 01:26 PM Dang Van is that you in the dark shorts unloading the trailer? I thought I was the only guy here forced to convert all my cars to tilt column :)
Seriously though nice find buddy! I'm not surprised another one stuck its head up and you pounced....its part of your molecular structure! It reminds me of the Hugger/Hugger X77 I picked up a few months ago. Thanks for sharing the car "as found". I appreciate it more than these #'s fully doc'd cars rolling out of the resto shops to be seen for the first time if you know what I mean.

Oh no .. that is not me !! That is one of my buddies . That guy has a lot of frieght on me.
RamAirDave Jun 28th, 08, 06:18 PM Do you need me to certify that Z for ya? :D
dreamweaver Jun 28th, 08, 06:43 PM Do you need me to certify that Z for ya? :D
Dave.... I asked you not to volunteer my services  --- I told you I'm too busy right now and can't break away.
RamAirDave Jun 28th, 08, 08:30 PM Dave.... I asked you not to volunteer my services  --- I told you I'm too busy right now and can't break away.
I didn't receive that request. So are you Epstein's Mother or the Pope?
dreamweaver Jun 28th, 08, 09:05 PM .....So are you Epstein's Mother or the Pope?
I'm neither, Dave...... I'm thinkin': you're the evil man, and I'm the righteous man. And Mr. 9mm here, he's the shepherd protecting my righteous a$$ in the valley of darkness. Or it could be you're the righteous man and I'm the shepherd and it's the world that's evil and selfish. I'd like that. But that ain't the truth. The truth is you're the weak. And I'm the tyranny of evil men. But I'm tryin', Dave. I'm tryin' real hard to be a shepherd.
RamAirDave Jun 28th, 08, 09:09 PM Look at the big brain on Dub.

.... Says the guy that is quite fond of sleeve-less t-shirts :D
Gary L Jun 28th, 08, 10:52 PM Speaking of certifying, TClovis asked JM about a trip to CA. I am in and will try to woo him to this area with a '67 Z/28 here in town. Anyone in the Modesto or bay area interested? I think Van has had one of his cars certified back east. I am sure TClovis will start a thread on this topic.
Oh and by the way, Steve, that 2nd to last post of yours is spooky.
ChevyThunder Jul 3rd, 08, 08:12 PM I don't need JM to certify a car anymore.. as RAD can attest I have Epstein's Mother to certify my cars.... anyway I did buy this car. What I am going to do with it... who knows. I think I am going to mount it over the chimney of my house.
