View Full Version : 68 Camaro
crustyz11 Jun 24th, 08, 02:40 PM I just talked to a guy about a 68 Camaro coupe. Supposedly an RS 327/PG car that's pretty gutted but he has all the parts. He says it's numbers matching except the heads and that the floors and trunk are solid. I saw the car from a distance and it looks to need at least lower patch panels in the bottom of the 1/4's.
My ? are; how do i tell if it's an original RS? What specifically should i look for on this car? If you'd rather PM me wth the info, that's cool.
He also has a 327/PG convertible Impala for sale and just sold a 68 Plymouth GTX 340/auto driver for $6500.00
Thanks, Jamie

Hideaway headlights (though the doors may be inop, look behind the grille)
front park lights in lower valance, not grille
taillights are all red, not half red/half white
reverse lights in lower valance
that's the real obvious stuff. don't know about a 68's trim tag, RS can be verified on a 67 tag.

If it is an original RS, it will have a punched (Greenlee) hole approx. 1 inch in diameter to the driver side of the brake master cylinder, above the fuse box, in which a grommet with two vacuum hoses went to the headlight switch. The headlight switch will have two hose bibbs on it.
The if you unfasten one of the reverse lamps, you should likewise find a stamped cutout for the light housing. If it looks cut, or there is a hole in the reinforcing panel behind the tailpan, it may not be an original RS.
crustyz11 Jun 24th, 08, 05:46 PM Thanks everyone! I don't know much about 68's, so the info is much appreciated.
If this guy really wants to sell it i'll pass the info on here. I couldn't bring home another car unless i got a divorce first!
I'll keep ya posted.
crustyz11 Jun 29th, 08, 02:03 PM Well, i talked to the guy today and got a price on it. It seems pretty cheap but i've yet to see the car up close. I'm going to look at it wed or thurs. Must remember camera!!!:p

crustyz11 Jun 30th, 08, 05:33 PM The guy said it (the Impala) was "driver quality". Kinda open to interpretation.:secret:
