I was at a cruise night last night and a guy walked up to me and since I had a 68 Camaro asked me what a 68 Camaro big block 396 would be worth. Of course I told him it would depend on what condition it was in. Also if it was an original big block car. He said his cousin owned it and has had it for 35 years but is not into cars any more. This guy was an eye doctor so he has the money to restore the car.
He was driving a mint 73 MUstang, (that was his problem) and has several more but no Camaros.
I could not really give him a ball park number so I figure I would ask here.
Lets say it is an original big block mid horsepower auto that needs a body on resto.
If it is not an original motor, but was a big block car. Anything else I know the price for those. Also what transmission came in the 68 big blocks?

It is very hard to place a value on 68's since there is not much information on the trim tag. However, since you are in Canada, you can get documentation on the Canadian cars, I would recommend doing so to the current owner. A big block would most likely have a turbo 400 behind it. I'de say the value would greatly depend upon body condition and the amount of original parts which are left on the car (especially drive train related).

I was at the same cruise night & the same guy asked me the same questions. I was there with my Camaro too.
I told him the same answers as you did. Depends, depends depends. He didn't know much about the car.

Everyone knows 68's are worthless because they can't be faked into high dollar cars with just a $200 trim tag.

Impossible to determine value based on your description for any year Camaro, but all thing being equal, 68's sell for about the same as 67's and about 10-15% less than 69's.

All 68 BB automatics where TH400's with a 12 bolt multi leaf rear end.

Hey Bodybyfisher: Small world I live in St. Catharines and get to that one occasionally.
You had the Red four speed car. I was going to head over and ask you about it but I got sidetracked. Do you get to any other cruises in the area. I know most of the Camaros around and I have never seen yours before.
Oops: I realize now that you had the black 70 Camaro, not the 68. I think I saw your car at the Nationals. I remember the Tremec literature.
