View Full Version : gas pedal adjustment blackphantom Jun 26th, 08, 12:30 PM hey guys wondering if anyone knew how to adjust the gas pedal on a 69 camaro i need more pedal so i can have wide open throttle right now i bottom out halfway any help would be very helpful thanks HIRISC Jun 26th, 08, 12:43 PM I'm working on the same issue with my 'new' car. I've adjusted the throttle arm as much as I can - it helped a bit, but my main issue is the lack of pedal travel available. The gas pedal has about 1.5" of 'in/out' play (with no affect on throttle modulation).. Where the pedal starts to affect throttle, it's only about 1.25" off the floor - not enough pedal travel available to get WOT. Unrelated to the pedal 'slop', is that the pedal is situated close to the tunnel and the carpet thickness is making it tough to get my foot 'down'. I'm going to look at the whole assembly tonight - from the pedal up to the throttle arm that I adjusted last night. See this: http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=98307&highlight=throttle+arm Good luck - let's keep posting up here until we figure it out :) blackphantom Jun 26th, 08, 01:44 PM last night i pulled the pedal and everything off thinking there was a adjustment screw or bolt i was wrong 2 hrs later got everything back installed. I cut a piece of metal to attach to the throttle arm hoping to get me more throw. that didnt work to much. I do agree with you I push the pedal and it has to go down a little to catch and start moving the carb. It seems that I need the pedal to move up 1-2"s and then catch earlier. I will work on it more tonight I wish there was an easy solution what a dumb set up from gm my 85 camaro carb was much easier to set up I got to love the cable prostreet69camaro Jun 26th, 08, 02:05 PM Remove the pedal and bend the metal rod up so the pedal is farther from the floor board. SixtyAte Jun 26th, 08, 02:20 PM Try fitting the rod in a different hole on the carb or get a longer rod that is adjustable. Most speed shops sell them. You then can set the maximum pull of the carbs throtle. I have mine so it hits the firewall and still has a little play to full throtle. This avoids forcing the carb open all the way and damaging it. Kev novaderrik Jun 27th, 08, 03:42 AM get a cable setup out of a 70-74 Nova- it is literally a $5 part that only takes about 10 minutes to install, plus another 2 minutes to dril the hole for the cable to pass thru using the dimple that GM was nice enough to put in the firewall for the 6 cylinder throttle cable to pass thru. and if you have some slop just bend the pedal up a bit. Cali Z28 Jun 27th, 08, 06:54 AM If you don't mind going aftermarket use a Lokar throttle cable, I have it on my engine, plenty of adjustment. blk/gld 68 Jun 27th, 08, 08:21 AM get a cable setup out of a 70-74 Nova- it is literally a $5 part that only takes about 10 minutes to install, plus another 2 minutes to dril the hole for the cable to pass thru using the dimple that GM was nice enough to put in the firewall for the 6 cylinder throttle cable to pass thru. and if you have some slop just bend the pedal up a bit. i have this set up,but like chris said "the thickness of the carpet next to the tunnel seems to stop the pedal from moving all the way down" i don't remember having this problem until i put the new carpet in. HIRISC Jun 27th, 08, 10:30 AM I'm planning to bend my pedal arm up - resolving three problems (carpet thickness, lack of travel, and WOT throttle) at once. :) I'll post some pics later. rogue Jun 27th, 08, 11:00 AM If you don't mind going aftermarket use a Lokar throttle cable, I have it on my engine, plenty of adjustment. I second this opinion. The pedal action is sooooo much nicer  Rodder Jun 27th, 08, 12:53 PM i have this set up,but like chris said "the thickness of the carpet next to the tunnel seems to stop the pedal from moving all the way down" i don't remember having this problem until i put the new carpet in. I had problems with my carpet not laying down flat next to gas pedal. I ended up putting a screw threw the carpet into the tunnel to make sure it stayed out of the way. |
