View Full Version : Plugging Intake Heat Riser

Guys,
On my 67 it has a pretty good leak on the carb mounting surface. I saw some threads on plugging it with a 7/16 freeze plug. Would I need to nickel rod weld that in there or would a press fit suffice?

I have been looking for the exhaust leak and that looks like the only one I can find. Its bleeding out both sides. Since GM obsoleted that on later spreadbore designs I thought it might be a good idea. Then for the heat riser I can order that block from Ricks, or remove the riser and tack it in the open position. My riser moves freely open and shut. Spring appears to work it open when its warm.

Just wanted to check on whether I should nickel rod that plug in there or not.

If anyone has any other gotcha's I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
Dave

I think the press fit will be fine.Thats how mine are.

Thanks Chad,
Project went just fine swapped the carb gasket and cleaned off the gasket residue off there for years. I ended up putting in 2 freeze plugs per size. They were 7/16 but kind of dropped down in there from the top. They taper towards the bottom held them though.

I went ahead and tacked the heat riser open just for good measure. Man the engine bay is quiet now. One of these days I have to redo that stocker single exhaust. She sounds like a camry.....

Thanks again,
Dave
