View Full Version : To the guys that race at the 1/4 mile track garfield Jun 26th, 08, 10:45 PM Would you run "Doughnut" tires on the front of your car to make it lighter? At high speeds, woudl you trust them! 68rs406 Jun 26th, 08, 10:53 PM "Doughnut"? I'm not familiar with the term, you mean like skinnies? If so then yes I would trust them and I would run them if looking for every bit, but with that I still run street tires at the track (215/60's) on ralleys and go low 11's, but I think I'm ready to change to some "skinnies" and light wheels, ralleys and radials weigh a ton. HarleyD67 Jun 26th, 08, 11:25 PM Ditto If I decide to go to a drag only car and start running in 10's then yes I would run skinnies. urbs big block camaro Jun 26th, 08, 11:29 PM I wouldn't run "Doughnuts" (spare tires) You could just run VW tires - thats got to be a little safer garfield Jun 26th, 08, 11:43 PM I wouldn't run "Doughnuts" (spare tires) You could just run VW tires - thats got to be a little safer Thats what I meant. The little spare tires that they put in these newer cars :) 8ballracing Jun 27th, 08, 05:04 AM Are we talking glazed or creme filled? Sorry had to get that out. I agree with the VW tire....... light and inexpensive...........ran those on one of my cars years ago......they were not much for the turns on the street but ran straight for me at the track no fears....... hope this helps 8Ball DOUG G Jun 27th, 08, 05:17 AM Spare "doughnut tires" .... NO WAY. They're only rated to 55mph and are pretty heavy. VW tires are better.... BUT.... only rated to 85mph. Get the right tire, if not for your @$$, then for the guys in the next lane. Sorry, but I have a daughter I would like to see grow up  Hatman Jun 27th, 08, 07:18 AM Thats what I meant. The little spare tires that they put in these newer cars :) No way would I do that & if I seen anybody trying to do that there would be a track official right there immediatlly !! 68rs406 Jun 27th, 08, 09:24 AM Thats what I meant. The little spare tires that they put in these newer cars :) Ohhhh, was not familiar with that term but, hell no. Those things are dangerous as a spare imo. I'm with Doug, I don't even like the idea of a non speed rated Volkswagen tire even though I have seen them and they work, get a drag front if you are going to a skinny. I know some of the 5 liter guys used the factory spare wheel with a skinny tire on them, the factory spare was a 15" aluminum wheel and a cheap light weight front. I always questioned it because no doubt they are not rated for over 55 or whatever. Microgiant Jun 27th, 08, 11:27 AM Check craigslist and ebay for someones old drag wheels. You may find some cheap. HarleyD67 Jun 27th, 08, 09:28 PM Sorry I miss understood as well. No way in heck would I run a spare at the track or let someone else for that matter. |
