View Full Version : Tire dates and safety RSS Jun 27th, 08, 12:42 PM Just thought I would pass this on; http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerindex?id=4826897 erik67ssrs Jun 27th, 08, 09:35 PM I've got a year or so left on mine and then I have a great excuse to buy the redlines I've been wanting! RSS Jun 27th, 08, 09:50 PM I learn something new every day. In the last 16 months I have purchased 3 complete sets of NEW tires. One set for the Jeep I use for work ( they were dated 2006), another set of good off road tires for my personal daily driver Dodge pick-up (dated 2006), and a third set for my 69 Camaro project that is costing me a small fortune. It ends up the set of BFG's I bought for the Camaro were dated 2002. So I havn't even finished or driven the car and the tires are already six years old. Live and learn!! yellow69RS Jun 28th, 08, 09:24 AM I wonder if they are replacing "outdated" tires under warranty regardless of tread depth? I have four brand new Goodyear's in the basement that have never touched the ground that hafta be 10 years old. Jeff Not from my experience, Bought a set of 60k mile tires for the wifes car, 4 years later they have 40k on them and wear bars showing. The tires should be eligible for prorated replacement based on they only lasted 2/3's of their tread life. Tire guy checks the dates and because tires are beyond 6 yrs old said the warranty is void. I argued that he sold us 2 year old tires because we only had them for 4 years but it did no good... I hope others have better luck, I know I will be checking dates before letting the installers mount the tires from now on... pdq67 Jun 28th, 08, 11:27 AM I found a site several years ago that decoded the little sidewall deal that looks like a metal tag, thats made into the sidewall in rubber that told "who made and where at" each tire and now, I can't find the link? Anybody know how to get to this link?? You would be amazed at who actually makes re-badged tires! if we know the manufacturer, we can buy the same quality off brand tires some cheaper than name brand here is all I'm saying! I think Cooper, K/S and maybe Dayton(?) are three re-badge tire makers b/c I figure it ups their volume and allows them to stay in business. And tires are coming in from CHINA and Brazil in vast numbers these days!! One type tire I really like is the high-pressure, easy rolling tires! These save me gas mileage big time like 5 percent!! I just have to check my tire pressure monthly is all! pdq67 |
