I have a chance to buy a 70 Superbee. It's all original with a 383 Big Block and auto trany. It pretty much is rust free except for the trunk. It's from Arizona. It's orange with a black vinyl top. (top is mint) interior is black and needs to be replaced. The car's body is nice but needs paint. I'm a 69 Camaro guy and I'm a reluctant to buy something that I don't know much about. Would this car be a good investment and how much would it be worth?

Thanks Team Camaro :beers:

For investment purposes, yes, buy it, IF IT IS AUTHENTIC.
1970 Superbee production numbers:
2 door hardtop w/383 motor and
auto trans: 5737
4-spd: 3383
3-spd: 284
total hardtops: 10508

2 door coupe w/383 motor and
auto trans: 1710
4-spd: 1336
3-spd: 385
total coupes: 3631

these cars are easliy cloned. go to www.superbeeregistry.com (http://www.superbeeregistry.com) and do thorough research.

i have lived in arizona for thirty years and have never, ever seen a car from the muscle car era, in this state, listed as an authentic arizona car, that was truly rust free....be carefull!!

without a whole lot more information, i would not even consider giving a price, however it could range from $30k to $225k plus.

You must not be looking hard enough......I have owned 3 different authentic AZ camaros that were all rust free......Yea...I have looked at probably hundreds that claimed it......but I was indeed able to find a few!

I actually have a a 70' bee, as said previously the production numbers are pretty low, they made less than 15,000 of them in 1970. Hopefully I can guide you in the right direction.

Some things to check, make sure the vin on the dash matches the fender tag (last 5 digits of the vin should be in the right hand corner of the fender tag).

Those last 5 digits of the vin should also be on the radiator support and trunk rail lip.
That way you can tell if the car isn't a re-body.

The superbees had a small little bee in the rear quarter window, its obvious if its an original sticker or it has been replaced because they are repoped. Sometimes the stickers are removed during 40yrs of lifetime. as you know anything can happen.

Also, the 70' super bees have a woodgrain dash, and the tail panel on the rear of the car is the same as a coronet but has a red stripe around it(denotes bee tail panel).

Also the second digit of the vin should be a "M" (that designates high perf version such as roadrunner or super bee). Also if the car is all original and from Arizona it should have dual exhaust, which bees came with from the factory.

be sure to check the frame, if there is trunk rust (about 400-500 for trunk sheetmetal) the rear leafspring perches and the front T section of the frame are very prone to rust on these B-body mopars. Make sure to check the frame over with a fine tooth comb before you buy. It is the problem prone area with these cars, along with the lower quarter panels

heres a pic of my bee isn't all original, it has huge drag wheels and tires on it (will be changed when I get a set of magnum 500's)
I'd suggest to pick it up if the body is in good shape, the super bee are rarer than the roadrunner and bring good money, not to mention are cool. The 70' was really the love it or hate it year, some people dont like the one year only big chrome grill.

if you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

I forgot to add, a 70 383 Auto bee in this crappy market seems like it would be in a range of around 15k-35k where 30-35k is show condition. Project cars about 8-15k depending on condition.

The 440 6 pack cars are bringing about 60-70k right now. Mine is a 383 car with a 440-6 drivetrain, so its not worth that much lol.

"Love it" m21man! 69 and 70 are my two favorite years for those. Same goes for charger, challenger and roadrunners. I love MOPARS.

Most of the units I see are 383's converted to 440-6's and asking twice as much. There was a 69 Roadrunner in Fresno last week for sale asking $60k and it was as I stated above. It was very nice though. Plum Crazy with black interior.

yea the super inflated mopar prize craze has kind of fizzled out, but the prices are still kind of ridiculous. It's just that nobody wanted mopars till a couple of years ago and now most of them have already bee junked.

An original 383 superbee/roadrunner with the original engine is a pretty rare thing to see. Most of them were raced and ragged on from the factory and no longer have their original motors. So, Mrmuncie the original motor is a huge plus in that bee!

Oh I forgot to add, one other thing that is a huge huge issue for the mopars compared to the chevys is the price of parts. you must take that into consideration when buying one of these cars. I didnt realize it haha. The parts are about 5x the price comapred to what camaro parts are. Once again the demand and production numbers are much much lower. For instance the rear bumper for my 68' Roadrunner cost me $340.00 repro, the bench seat cover cost me $300.00 for only the front. Interior parts are extremely expensive!! If you have to redo the whole interior figure a couple thousand dollars.

I have always liked the 70 Bees. An orange one would be awesome  I'd almost give up one of my 69 Camaros if the right deal came along, but most of the Mopar stuff near me is still stuck on the overpriced end of the market. Good luck.

Dan,
You are a lucky man! But, 3 out of "hundreds" is a poor ratio compared to all the claims. And that is/was my point; be careful of the statement that it is an Arizona car and therefore rust free.

M21Man,
Nice "Bee".......but I'll bet the "Bird" in the garage is even nicer!!

I lived in Phx for 20 something years,

You gotta remember that the Phx area has boomed for a long time now, so, most everybody is from somewhere else. Think about that.
You'll know a true Az/ N. Mex / So. Utah car once you crawl under it.

My old El Cam was not from Phx. Lotta bodywork by "sculpture".

Too many people have a war raging with Ford/Chevy, Mopar/Chevy (only at the drags!). I love em all..if it's American iron it rocks! Nice ride m
