hello. my friend has a block that has a small crack where one of the pipe fittings go in the rear of the block by the cam. if he were to grind it down and put JB weld on the threads of the plug and screwed it back in and applied weld to the crack and surrounding areas, will it take the abuse of the heat and expansion/contraction? it only needs to hold up against 80psi of oil pressure.
thanks

Is this just a bare block? If so I would drill it out and put in a larger plug. You need to get rid of the crack, if not it wll just grow. You might even try having it welded up and then drill and tap it again. I do not think JB Weld is going to work in this situation. I would rather braze it over JB weld.

fully assembled engine. its a tiny crack not in the block but just on the edge where the plug goes. a race engine buildertold me exactly how to do it and said will be fine. they repair stuff like this all the time with JB and never had a problem. even on 2300hp drag motors

Rather than JB Weld, I'd use (and have done in the past) Loctite 620.
It will flow into cracks better and sets very hard.
