1968 Camaro RS/SS 396/375 Fully Restored
http://images6.ecarlist.com/photos/1308_113287/640/08.jpg <-- right down to the sticker l:)
RS/SS 375 HP. WOW!! Great investment. Great Driver!! You have to see this car in person. This low mileage rust free Camaro came out of Georgia 30 years ago. Complete Fresh nuts and bolts rotisserie restoration. It is a true RS/SS 375 HP that is correct down to the smog equipment.

Vintage 68 Jul 2nd, 08, 12:26 PM You would think they'd put a nice-new "Caution" sticker on something restored that well
tmannet Jul 2nd, 08, 05:19 PM Oh man look at the trim tag shot on the original ad (large photo)...
So just what about the cowl tag is suspect? Look too new? Got X codes or something on it? Even if it's a replacement are you going to poo-poo the car when the tag provides no clue to what the car is or isn't? Caution fan stickers are still in Camaro parts catalogs so I think we can expect to see them on a lot of cars for some time to come... Is something wrong with the smog equipment? Wrong year? Repro?
Don't take this wrong, if there is something wrong making the car or ad deceptive let's hear about it. If the intent is to help the hobby out say what's wrong without being coy like you want the secret brotherhood to snicker and agree with you. There is no room here to bash Camaros for sport, it's no different than making fun of someone because you think their question is stupid.
tmannet Jul 2nd, 08, 08:04 PM Dennis,
I'd like to know too...cowl tag looks brand new. Could it be a legitimate replacement for the original? Or is it an obvious fake? I know we don't discuss the details on forums, but I'm no expert. Even I can see it's not original but is it legit??
Hatman Jul 3rd, 08, 07:33 AM That doesn't look like the right crossmember, does it?
cpodeep Jul 3rd, 08, 09:08 AM Will,
I agree that it is the wrong crossmember!

Yes DjD - the Cowl Tag is a 'repop' - that sounds better than "Fake" huh ;)
Even with the terrible picture - which makes me suspect from the get-go when all the other close shots are clear ...
It was probably done to change color, interior or make the Fisher-date match the title VIN - no clue as to the original intention, as is well known for 68's it doesn't point out any engine or performance options ...
Yes, the smog equipment is all the current aftermarket stuff from the repopper's selling 'Complete "Correct" Smog systems' through many sources.
The diverter markings are the common 'repop' style (69+ style).
The A.I.R. pump is a current reman/repop, without the 1968 only fittings.
The Exhaust AIR tubes are current aftermarket.
The Pulleys are not correct for the system.
Hoses are the current available and not shaped as originals.
The Pump bracket looks to be the current style - but, it's hard to see the retainer nut shape clearly.
The Intake is incorrect.
The Fuel line is missrouted, or ???
The small misc. brackets and pieces for the engine sub-systems are missing or incorrect, what's there in most cases being the current available repop pieces.
The PCV hose is misrouted.
The Disc. system is most likely a recent addition.
The parts are all off the shelf 'repop' stuff.
The spindles are also missing the brackets for the hoses (not repopped).
Most the front sheet metal is 'repop'.
Many of the Emblems are installed incorrect.
Some of the BB specific paint trim is incorrect and/or missing in some areas.
The Wood Wheel is of course a 'repop'.
Just another 'made-up-to-flip' Camaro in my eyes ...
So there, you've heard about "it" from me now :D
I try to never take your intervention in threads "wrong" :noway:
I know you're trying to maintain the standards and purpose of the site as Al intended and sometimes things go off in the wrong direction very quickly.
Sometimes I just can't resist poking a little fun at some 'eBain' adds for these cars as the hype is meant to support their price and little more.
Hopefully I don't cross the line enough to warrant the comments being edited by the 'admins' :o
Hatman Jul 3rd, 08, 01:32 PM ^^ Hey you forgot about the extra long U-bolts where there should be T- bolts! ^^
DOUG G Jul 3rd, 08, 03:43 PM I posted this to show how much can be or is blatantly wrong. As for that cowl tag.... regardless if its fake or a "replacement" looks WAYYYY outta place :D
Thanks John... I really think giving the reading public a bit of information helps the cause more than just dropping a hint that only someone that is already informed can key in on. Put yourself in the position of someone interested in that car that sees this post prior to your enlightening list. He runs off to the seller, "hey I read on the web your car has a bad tag, some wrong stickers and I think there is something up with your smog equipment". The reply back is "what exactly did the clowns say and do you beleave everything you read?" See where I'm going? The uninformed just gets set-up for a bigger snow job but with a real laundry list the playing field is leveled. For all the items wrong with the car it still looks like a nice car and if the buyer knows all the facts going in he might be able to turn a deal if he's ok with it not being correct.

To go along with what I replied to John, I knew your intent but the way you went about it only someone already informed would have a clue what you were talking about... I hope that makes sense... :beers:
Vintage 68 Jul 3rd, 08, 10:02 PM Thanks John... I really think giving the reading public a bit of information helps ...
You're right - it can
But, I usually just read through these and go to the next one, because replying doesn't do much good many times.
My flip little comment about the "CAUTION" sticker was just that - I had nothing 'nice' to say about the car (although it is 'pretty' :D ) so I didn't ...
It did really strike me as funny that they would go to all that trouble detailing the car and then leave an ugly peeling sticker right there in front of the buyer :o
But then again, it is a real 'Biach' to get them to stick to those repopped shrouds l:)
Carguy00 Jul 4th, 08, 02:55 PM You know what I think is suspect about this ad? It is that it is a pretty fancy ebay ad for someone with only 1 feedback. Looks like they have done the whole ebay thing before. Just me, but when I see this I automaticly think they had some bad feedback under another used name and just created a new one and start over.

It's a canned package for doing auction pages, you fill in the blanks and provide pictures... Individuals just getting started on ebay might just toss up a simple auction page but I think a business trying to present a quality image would take the initiative right from the start.
