View Full Version : Classic Industries-Sale/Discount Code
68Tom Jun 30th, 08, 08:09 PM While I'm not complaining about Classic Industries as they steadily seem to have some of the best prices around, I just tried to order all I need to reupholster my seats and EVERYTHING was "discount exempt" so I wasn't able to get the additional 20% off (which expired today, I believe-PS4591). In fact, about 3/4 the items I need for my car at the moment are "discount exempt."
Like I said, while their prices are good, it would have been nice to get the 20% off. I ended up not ordering the stuff now as I really don't have the money for it. Guess it's probably best, although I have to admit I'm a little bummed. It would have been nice taking my time restoring the seats.
Aaron67Coupe Jun 30th, 08, 08:22 PM I just ordered a bunch of stuff from Classic the other day and I only ordered stuff that was eligible for the discount. It is a pain though, to have stuff that you need only to find out that you cant get the discount. I had one of the guys there at Classic explain there discount exempt policy to me. He told me that the discount applies to items that they dont have to put together in kits. For example, the weatherstrip kit is discount exempt, because their warehouse workers have to manually put the kit together from individual pieces they have in stock. He said that some of the kits, are however, discount eligible, but those are the ones that come from their outside vendors as a kit already (such as the complete body bolt kit). I guess the discount exemption for kits that they have to put together themselves pays for their workers labor costs.
Westonz28 Jun 30th, 08, 08:24 PM Classic does not take the 20% off any of the packages they offer. But most of the parts they sell can be bought not in the kit. You just have to buy them one piece at a time to get the dicount. you have to add the parts up to see if is cheaper to buy in kit form no discount or each part and you get discount on them. generally it is about a wash on the parts unless you are ordering lots of stuff then you may do ok with the 20% off discount.
HIRISC Jun 30th, 08, 10:04 PM Thanks for the discount code Tom.
I needed some valve covers and saved $40 on my order.
:beers:
67CamaroRS/SS Jul 1st, 08, 05:26 AM Tom, I know all too well how you feel about Classic and their "20% off" codes. I live in Maryland and the shipping charges are rediculous. It cost me I believe %15 and some change to ship a power steering pump cradle. Tell me that's not absolutely rediculous? The part can't weigh but 1lb or so. Then it takes them around 4-5 days for it to arrive. I can get the same item from Rick's and the shipping is HALF and it gets to me it 2 days. I wrote to Classic a few weeks ago and explained to them about how much of a bad image they have with the aftermarket and they basically told me they didn't care. Not in so many words, but I understood the underlined message. It's hard to believe that they would rather lose business than to lower their shipping fees. I can't believe that it costs $15 to ship a part that weighs 1lb. That is complete bulls*** and they know it, but until a mass amount of people begin to look elsewhere, they are going to continue to shaft the consumer.
68Tom Jul 1st, 08, 07:03 AM Well, the thing is, I tried to order each piece separately, and a) you can't get the seat cover except in a kit (discount exempt) and b) most of the parts separately were discount exempt.
Well, I'm glad at least one person got to take advantage of the discount. I wish places like Rick's were able to drop their prices a little bit as they offer good customer service and shipping is always prompt (at least from what I've experienced thus far.)
And I don't understand the shipping rates whatsoever. You're paying $15 for a 1lb part. Not only is that ridiculous, but it also doesn't even remotely account for the reduced rates a large company will receive from UPS over the average person. So, essentially, with their "dollar amount" shipping rates, they're making about $12-13 on you on shipping. Talk about gouging....
Phatbudde Jul 1st, 08, 07:32 AM Like any business they are in it to make money, or they would not do it. Their prices are less than others, and they can make up on some of it through shipping. Common in business. 15 dollars is not out of the park, it may seem like it. If you and I ship anything it would be at least 15 bucks. They do get a break on shipping, but not 1/2 off. Maybe 30% or so. I like classic, maybe because they are 45 min. away. Easy drive but cost me 25 in gas. I try to make it worth the drive by buying "lots" of needed things.
68Tom Jul 1st, 08, 07:36 AM Cool that it's close to you. Although I guess you're stuck paying CA sales tax tho (which I guess you'd have to pay on anything you buy out of CA, whether it is shipped or not).
Oh, I realize they normally have good prices. I guess I was just bummed out I couldn't get the discount. I was looking forward to ringing some seats up. haha.
Phatbudde Jul 1st, 08, 07:40 AM Yup, sales tax, property tax, gas tax, no work:mad:..............lots of sun. Good luck on your seats.
68Tom Jul 1st, 08, 09:36 AM Well what do you know. After my ranting, I was actually able to find some stuff on Classic's website (headrests, seat foam, seat springs) that were not discount exempt and saved myself $135. Not too shabby.
The $51 in shipping, however is another story.... haha.
67rs built Jul 1st, 08, 06:55 PM I took Monday off from work so I could drive for two hours to get to Classic Industries. I needed an inner fender, subframe connectors, fiberglass hood, and a dozen small parts. I thought I would save a ton of money cause I wouldn't have to pay oversize shipping and I had my discount in hand. As I rattled my list of parts off the clerk informed me the expensive parts were not discounted. I really wanted the hotchkis subframe connectors and showed him that it is not labeled as discount exempt in my catalog ( the one with the blue 68 Yenko on the cover c2008). Clerk said to me, "you should have called first". I was mad. Then I had time to think about it on the long drive home. I wil be shopping elsewhere from now on.
powershift Jul 1st, 08, 08:08 PM National Parts Depot !! Classic sucks.
HIRISC Jul 1st, 08, 10:03 PM Their shipping fees are absurd.
In my case, I saved $40 and that paid for the shipping plus a bit more.
At some point, the classic car parts industry will be forced into 'free shipping'.
I'd rather shop at Ricks - their site is a LOT better than Classic's.

Classic is good for you because you are close, but us guys on the opposite coast are getting raped. I NEVER USE UPS OR FEDEX. I use the USPS and a part like that pump cradle(1 or 2lbs) would cost like $8-$9 to ship and that probably includes insurance. They are in it to make money, but when they out and out rape a customer on something, then that's when something needs to be done.

What was the reasoning he gave you for the catalog NOT saying discount exempt and when you got there, NO DISCOUNT? How can they do that? If the catalog says discount exempt, then fine, but if it doesn't then you should have received the discount. I would have got someone up on the totem pole out there to explain that one to me. I just looked at the same catalog and NOTHING on both pages with Hotchkis merchandise says discount exempt.

And not only that, you could drop that part in a Priority Mail Flat Rate box and the person would have it in 2 days for that price. They're definitely gouging a bit. I realize that some of what I ordered is on the bulky side--seat foam, lower seat springs, so it's going to cost a little more to ship. However, seeing as Classic goes by how much you spend (shouldn't they be LOWERING your shipping charges if you spend over a grand?), it's just an arbitrary amount and is not in any way correlative to what I ordered.
