I'm looking for a rear for my car and I found a 9" out of a early mustang.( 67-70) The rear measures 59-1/4 axle flange to axle flange. It is factory 31 spline, has a factory clutch type locker, and has 3.90 gears. In searching these rear ends out I have found that the Mustang rear was actually weak --- 67-73 Mustang/Cougar - light duty, thinnest housing material, small axle
bearings, 28 and 31 splines.--- What do you think this rear is worth?

I can order parts separately and build a 800hp capable 9" with rear disc brakes for $1500.00 That's using a heavy duty housing, Strange 3rd member (H) case, large bearing Daytona pinion support, Detroit Locker, and Moser axles. This is the way I'm probably going to go.

I'll bet my 8.5 will hold anything that Mustang rear will. A buddy runs low 10s with one.

I used a Mustang 9" in my car. It was just a 28 spline unit with 3.70 gears and a posi. Paid $200 for it 15 years ago and ran mid 12's without doing anything to it. Upgraded to 33 spline axles and a Strange center and ran mid 10's.

Would still be using it except I crushed the spring perches. Which ever one you go with make sure you gusset the perches.

Bet it will too, but the price is getting outrages on them also. If I'm to spend a grand on the rear, I just as soon go with a 12 bolt or a built 9".

Thanks for the insight Steve. I'll make sure to gusset the perches on whatever rear I use.

I'm going to pass on the rear end. The guy wants $450.00 OBO for it. If anyone is interested, here is the link.
