How do you change the seal on an original oil filler cap? Mine leaks a little oil onto the valve cover and I want to replace the seal and keep the original cap. From what I can se there is no way to get the seal and the little metal backing plate off.

If all else fails I guess I could get some gasket material and cut out another seal and glue it onto the existing seal but that wouldn't be right either.

Thanks for the help.

If you are talking about the cap I am thinking you are talking about, I don't think you can. You might be able to cut two new gaskets out of thinner material and silicone the two together with the splits at opposite sides but I think you could just get a peplacement easier.

Mark, if you find a solution, be sure to let us know. Mine has leaked since it was new. (The car, not just the cap)
