View Full Version : 69 side mount exhaust
mt69z28 Jul 2nd, 08, 08:12 AM I have a 1969 Camaro and I want to run a side mount exhaust similar to the Baldwin Motion type. i know Hooker sells a system but it is all chrome and would be close to $2000 for the whole thing. Does any other company make a side mount exhaust? I want a clean and simple black painted steel or powder coat and without the cover that goes over the side pipe with the holes.
Thanks, Mike
deerhunter Jul 2nd, 08, 09:31 AM Those covers you don't want can prevent some very serious burns. They burn bad enough with the covers on.
KevinW Jul 2nd, 08, 10:00 AM Actually, the hooker sidemounts have a slip in muffler that does not heat the outer surface, so you dont get burned. BUT, where the muffler ends (around the door edge) does get hot and will burn you. The front seat passengers are usually safe, but the rear seat passengers do get burned due to the way you have to wrap your leg around to get out. No shield cover that area anyways.
Hooker used to make a black set (see my first Camaro pic :)), call up and see if you can get a special order (pay more for no chrome :D)

Pro-Street69Camaro468 Jul 5th, 08, 08:00 PM JMO, but do you realy like the look of those I'm not to much on them just seems kinda 60's JMO not that you need it........
mt69z28 Jul 6th, 08, 01:55 PM i don't like the exhaust with the cover or the chrome but a solid black 4" side pipe gives it a nice road race look in my opinion.
mt69z28 Jul 6th, 08, 01:57 PM nice car as well, nice pics

I thought First gen Camaros were all "kinda 60's" :)
Z15CAM Jul 7th, 08, 04:19 PM I bought my 70Z in 76 and it cam with Corvette Side Pipes. I soon got rid of them as the noise bouncing of buildings and especial curbs drove me insane. The Exhaust has to be dumped out the back and not under to the car for my preferences.
scblucam Jul 7th, 08, 08:11 PM I know several people with 30 plus year old burn scars from those pipes. Black pipes burn you, Chrome keeps on burning for some reason. IMHO Don't do it.
mt69z28 Jul 9th, 08, 08:44 AM wow, not too many fans of the side pipe idea. maybe thats why i cant find them anywhere.
Fred Ficarra Jul 9th, 08, 09:21 AM Unlike these cars, I think time passed them by.
