Ok-
When I push the lights to high beam they go off- I can manully hold the button down and they stay on- when I take my foot off, they go off. Then the lights will stay on, but on highbeam- when I push to go to low beam, they go off- unless I hold down the button??

You may not be pressing hard enough. The switch goes down and 'clicks' into the desired position.

If you press fast, minimal amount of out time with lights. If you press slow, there are periods of darkness. But switch should snap into the next position. If not, NAPA has them.

Is your carpet getting hung in the switch? Or loose switch?

And check the grounds and corrosion on the lamp pins up front along with carpet issue above.

.......headlight dimmer switch. Remove 2 small fasteners on the switch, unplug, plug in new one, reinstall 2 small fasteners on switch and you're done, about a 10 minute job, if not less.
