For an all out heads up racer, definately. For a street strip bracket car, it's probable not worth it. The advantage is it helps keep heat from escaping through the pistons. Gains are minimal, but in heads up racing it's minimal can be everything.

I have brand new series 3 9 bolt carriers and gear sets to 4.10 available for borg warner 9 bolts. Check my web page for more info.

can you define minimal. 2hp 7hp 10hp?

one of david vizards books says up to 4-6% for coating the pistons, and also allmost 10% gains can be made by coating the piston tops, combustion chambers, and the valves. but its quite expensive.

You could speak with some of the turbo and blower guys. A lot of them do this for heat purposes. They usually dyno everything they build so they could probably give you an accurate answer even if it's only relative to turbo or blower motors.

Not sure how to create a link but if you go to the site below ,you can find more info out.I am looking into this for my own rebuild.Any little bit can help and when you can do it yourself ,the cost is greatly reduced.I have an oven that I use for powder coating so I will let you know how the stuff works when I get to that point.Good luck. http://www.techlinecoatings.com/

I am using tech-line coatings stuff on my piston's (skirts and top's) and in the combustion chambers. I do not know if it will make any more H/P but I like the peace of mind that it will help against detination while I am going to push N2O into it. This is a strip/street car.
And the do-it-yourself price was right.

FWIW, I have read where somebody is patenting using a catalyst in the combustion chamber for air pollution control reasons and has been quite successful at it. I forget who it is, though.

Might do a search under combustion chamber stuff and fuel eff's and find it. pdq67

ok I had to do a little digging to find this magazine but here is what Car Craft wrotein their Nov. 2000 issue(50 tips and tricks) they said "taking a piston and reworking the dome was worth .25 seconds and 3 mph in the 1/4 on a 700hp 406" next "spraying the reworked domes with VHT FlameProof coating on the same enginewas worth 40hp, boosting it's hp to 808. Coated pistons must be baked in an oven for eight hours at 400 degrees." Now I don't know how accurate this I'm just writing what they said.

reworking the domes in what context? polishing them to retain the heat?

No they smoothed the edges (rounded the domes) so there wasn't any hard enges causes less hot spots and makes for better combustion.

im pretty sure im gona have this done (providing it dosent cost like 100$ a piston). I really dont no how to tell if it will have made any difference after its done though. i dont have a reference point. i will keep you all posted though. if all goes as planned this thing ought to come to life in about 4 weeks. this motor wont be a rat but i think it will be a mouse that walkes on his back legs though.

if your going to rework your domes they say you can do it yourself or in this case JE can do it for you.---Don't forget to get it balanced becuase they won't weight the same after you grind on them http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
