Since my transmission is broke, and my oil pan leaks bad, im taking out the motor and trans and getting things all straightened out in one shot. Im getting a solid cam, not sure which one yet. Ive messed around with my desktop dyno but I still want some recommendations, I want to go 6500 but no more. Im thinking the CC 294S, since its very close to my 292H. I want to go real fast next year, so I need more bumpstick me thinks. I want 11s badly, that 12.09 was a real teaser but thats the only attempt I had this year and probably all I will get since my gearbox went south.

Well i dont know the .050 specs and lift and such oneither of the "comps" But if you go from a hydraulic to a solid its like loosing 10 degrees of duration and .0xx amount of lift for your lash so you may actually be slowing yourself down by not getting a relativly bigger bumpstick, somthing to think about.

There's another way to get 11's . . . ;) get an automatic trans with a 3,500 stall :D You have enough MPH now to get high 11's IMO --- 113.5 mph is an 11.8x run for me if I pull my typical 1.68 - 1.72 60' time. ALTHOUGH - the MPH would drop with an automatic due to converter slippage, so maybe it is just shy of the power you need.

Going to the 294s should add a little low-end TQ and a little top-end HP but IMO not enough to take you from 12.1's to 11.8's.

What about the Comp XS290? Specs are: 290*I/296*E duration, 252*I/260*E at .050 lift, .540"I/.558"E lift, 110* LSA. RPM band would be pushing your 6500 limit though.

You could even go tighter on the LSA with an Isky Z30 - specs are 290* duration, 250* duration @ .050 lift, .480" lift, 108* LSA. This cam should make more midrange than the Comp XS and would be a good choice if your heads have a good exhaust port and your exhaust system is free flowing.

Or you could go with a 106* LSA cam if you don't care about idle . . . There's the Crane Saturday Night Special - 280/288 advertised, 244*I/252*E duration @ .050, .518"I/.536"E lift, 106* LSA. This cam is short on advertised duration so you may need to mix gas or use race fuel to prevent pinging on pump gas.

The thing is you are kind of in the same situation as me when I picked the 294s --- with 11.2:1 compression and a 6,500 RPM redline you don't want a cam that is too agressive with the .050 duration but still need 290* or so advertised duration to keep your DCR down in pump gas territory.

Sorry to ramble - good luck.

I think your lookin in the wrong direction. With a peg-leg 373, and poor 60ft times I dont think
throwing more hp at it will make it go 11s. You've already got a healthy sb and with your mph
it should be runnin 11.70-80s, so work on the 60ft times, or it could run 12.50s @ 116 with a
cam swap, and be worse off. ;)

I missed the non-posi part. That would be my very first change . . . that alone should get you into the 11's

I want to be as fast as you Eric, your car is bad ***. I know there is faster, but 11s on a pump gas small block is wicked. Im watching an ebay auction for a 294s, I think thats the cam I want.

Thanks dude, but if you really want to go fast, get the posi first and work on the first 60'. Really. You'll be amazed. My MPH really hasn't changed that much, most of the last .5 - .7 seconds I've shaved off my ET came in the first 60' not with the motor.

You've easily got .1 you can get in the first 60' which is .2 in the 1/4. Maybe the slightly smaller 294s would help a hair with that but the posi (or even a spool if you're cheap ;) ) should certainly do the trick.

PS. sorry to hear about your stereo :(

I dropped .7 seconds of my ET from going from a 3.08 open to a 3.73 posi rear, on street tires.

If you want a fast pump gas SBC...
Here's my friends 406, - 11:1
HP950
Brodix HV1000 intake (single)
Brodix track I heads - ported 305/214cfm
Comp 254/260 solid roller
1 7/8" headers, 3 1/2" ehxaust
ATI 8", glide, 4.10s (going to 373s)
This setup, in a Luv truck, has gone 10.22@129 in the summer, and we're lookin
to get 9.90s this winter. Its run 9.40s on gas - makes for a nice street SB.

I agree posi first. With 3.73s do you really want more cam?

just a thought;
a powertrax will bolt into your non-posi,stock carrier and deliver lockup to the rear tires and from what i hear excellent cornering too.at $400 for a bolt in i think this sounds pretty good anyone here using one?
