View Full Version : cadillac Q-jet on my camaro
67ssrs350 Mar 28th, 01, 04:08 PM the part number on the q-jet is 7043235. so i did a search at carbs unlimited, that search says its off a 73-74 caddy. i would like to know, what is the differance in the chevy q-jet and the caddy carb? the cadillac q-jet seems a little sluggish when you put your foot in the gas. thanks for any info you guys can give me...... Sonny
Terry Cooper Mar 28th, 01, 04:35 PM I think there were 2 sizes of these carbs. The Caddy engine would have been 472 to 500 cubic inches. May be too much carb or you might have to re jet
camaros4life Mar 29th, 01, 06:39 AM Manual transmission in a Cadillac...gotta be kind of rare
Everett#2390 Mar 29th, 01, 07:00 AM Caddy is probably 800-850 cfm. Kindda like putting a dominator onto a stock 305, tooo much!!
Low velocity of air flow thru carb, not getting the correct circuit to work.
Might try to readjust the secondary air spring to maybe open the secondaries sooner.
otherwise, hit the swap shops for a more favorable carb.

oger Mar 29th, 01, 07:21 AM The Cad carb is basically the same as a Chev you will need to change the primary jets and metering rods to a chev size. Don't open the airvalue any earlier it is probably opening to soon now.
Eric68 Mar 29th, 01, 12:03 PM Ditto what Oger says. Actually, although it your carb is technically too big, if there is any carb you might be able to get away with it it's a Q-jet. Why? 'cause it's got vacuum secondaries and it's a spreadbore. The primaries are fairly small so you'll still get a fairly strong metering signal when just cruisin' even though the carb is huge. You'll definately need to put some smaller jets in though. Let us know if you try it and how it works, I'm curious now . . .
67ssrs350 Mar 29th, 01, 02:33 PM thanks for the response.. this past weekend the carb started flooding, just assumed that some trashed got in there or the float was stuck, so got a rebuild kit, tore it down, cleaned it up. noticed the primary jets had 71 stamped on them, didnt think to look at the metering rods. but what would you guys suggest as replacments? thanks again for the help!! sonny

Joe B Mar 30th, 01, 05:13 AM Just to let you know that the Quadrajet in
the '83-88 Monte Carlo SS's with the L69 305
were rated at 795 cfm installed from the factory on these engines. (9.5 CR, 1.84/1.50 intake /exhaust, Corvette cam & cat, and aluminium intake).
arentisdue Mar 31st, 01, 05:40 PM I dont have an answer to your carb problem, but would like to talk to you about your 67. I found a 67 RS/SS in my shop and I am thinking about a restoration on it.
