I have searched every possible combination of this quesiton and found nothing.
My headlight covers need another 1/2 inch to close to the grill. What adjustment or corrective action can be taken to get the doors to close this gap. I see on big money cars there is no gap. I realize you can shim the bucket/rad support but that doesn't seem to get the gap any smaller. I am about to widen the mount holes to shift that 1/2 but thought I would post before I pull the drill out. As always, any input would be apprecated.

You can actually use a pry bar and tweek the mounting points for the vacumn canister to make it close correctly. Take a look and think about what I am saying. Kind of prying the canister one way or the other.

Let me guess. You bought new vacuum canisters?

I bought Rick's canisters myself, and I have the same issue.

Yes, new canisters. Are all the new ones have this issue or is it that I got lucky>???

I bought a new one a couple years ago because my original was hanging up. The new one hung up too. Bizarre. Fixed it by bending the plunger off to one side because I noticed a scuff mark on it. Did I say bizarre?
Anyway, back to the doors not closing: That new one did the same as yours. It didn't close the last inch or so. Called Classic Camaro. (the new one had a longer shaft by about a quarter inch) They pulled a new one off the shelf. Same size. I said, 'that ainta gonna work'. 'How about I thread it a little further and cut off the excess so as to match my original? Will I still have a warranty?' They said sure, go for it. I did. Perfect to this day. Ahhhhh, reproductions.

Fred, Could you explain the fix in a little more detail? Your talking aboyt the plunger/rod? How did you get it out and back in?

I'll try, it's been a couple of years and old age is setting in.
I did not take it apart. I pulled the rod out and held it with my vice. (Used jaw covers) Then ran a dye onto the treads and made them a quarter inch further down the shaft and cut off the extra length. Disclaimer, the job is not crystal clear in my memory banks.
