View Full Version : Question about gmpartsdirect
TClovis Jul 14th, 08, 09:38 AM For anyone who orders from them:
Are their parts like NOS?
I ordered the RH side 396 emblem from them this morning. There was no image but the part number matched so my fingers are crossed.
What I'm trying to find out is if their emblems are curved like original or are they going to be like OER stuff?
The repros I've purchased are all straight as a board. When I mounted the emblem it stuck out on both front and back studs leaving 1/4 gaps. When I tried to tighten it down they all snapped due to pot metal. Help please.
KevinW Jul 14th, 08, 11:01 AM GM partsdirect is just a website for a dealer selling over the counter GM parts, located in NC, SC or FL, cant remember. If GM sells it at the dealer, then you can get it there. It is weird though. I needed gas cap for 2004 cars and even with shipping from the south, it was a couple dollars cheaper that what the local dealers charged.
TClovis Jul 14th, 08, 11:11 AM So you're saying I could have just driven over to the local GM dealer and gotten this part? Now I feel lame. lol
68Tom Jul 14th, 08, 12:50 PM Well, often the local dealer wouldn't have the part in stock, so you'd be waiting for it anyways. Plus it seems like their prices are a bit lower.
It's amazing that for GM parts, they're SO much cheaper than say, Ricks or even NPD. I think either place wants something like $85 ea for an original Fisher door sill plate, and it's only $52 at GMPD.
Eric Kammerer Jul 14th, 08, 02:22 PM GM Parts Direct is the web business of Modern Chevrolet, located in Winston Salem, NC.
I use GMPD to look up availability and part numbers, but unless you have a relationship with your local Chevy counter guys, it's tough to beat GMPD pricing.
Hatman Jul 14th, 08, 03:39 PM The parts price might be cheaper but they wanted to charge shipping per piece like $19.00 PER PART. Do as said get the part # then go to your local G.M. dealer & order the part, it never takes more than a week.
sdphilips Jul 14th, 08, 04:07 PM I bought a header panel for a 68 from them, was in a gm box, gm part. Still surprised that it was available.

ChuckD Jul 14th, 08, 04:24 PM I only used them one time, to give it a try. No problems and the order shipped as agreed with an e-mail confirmation. Duck Soup! I plan on using them again if I need GMPP stuff.
KevinW Jul 14th, 08, 07:15 PM It always pays to do your homework, with all the web info, it is easy. Like I said, GMPD was $15 for the cap and $9 shipping to my door, but local dealer wanted $27 and they were both back ordered. I still saved $3 and the hassle and gas driving to the dealer. If the price is less total, no brainer, use GMPD, but if shipping and parts combined is more, then order locally.
TClovis Jul 14th, 08, 10:57 PM I ordered the parts from GMPD but just for the heck of it I called the local dealer. Right off the bat the sales guy tells me to call Year One or Classic. So I ask him if he can check the part number anyway and he was shocked. He found it in Lansing, Michigan. He told me he never gets classic camaro people ordering parts. I guess most just figure they won't find the part at the dealer.
Their price was $70.00 and 5 days for delivery.
I bought if from GMPD for $35.00.
This was the GM RH 396 emblem.
trentonZ28 Jul 16th, 08, 08:41 PM I've ordered several times from them, and even with the shipping cost, it's cheaper then the local dealership.
prostreet69camaro Jul 16th, 08, 08:50 PM I ordered some window moldings about 5 years ago from them and they charged 9.00 a piece for shipping. It was still cheaper than my dealer and I recently bought some items from them and they quit charging for shipping on every item.

I didn't know that. Modern Chev also has Classic Muscle parts. The only problem with GMPD is that the freight is high so you need to make the order worthwhile.
Unreal Jul 17th, 08, 04:08 PM I bought their entire stock of rear deck lid bumpers a couple of years ago in an attempt to "corner the market" . Waiting for the prices to skyrocket, and then I'll clean up!! :)
They only charged me one shipping charge of about $5-6 for 20 or 25 pieces.

Maybe you`ll get rich one day. LOL
JohnZ Jul 17th, 08, 07:30 PM GMPartsdirect.com is Flow Chevrolet; their business model is to sell GM parts at dealer cost, and to use marked-up shipping cost as their profit generator; it works very well for them.
:beers:
