i just replaced the springs on my 68 with the hotchkis springs and also replaced the ball joints upper and lower as well, when we put the spindles in the crown nuts go down so far on the stud the cotter pin hole is above the nut, it seems that the grease boots are really smooshed down on both the upper and lower joints, i am afraid something is not right, i am afraid to continue until i can get some addl ideas.

Rick, I replaced upper ball joints and my moog replacement ball joint came with an assortment of washers of different thickness to move the nut higher to the cotter pin hole.

you might have received the wrong ball joints, take it back apart and compare the taper in the spindle and on the ball joint.
Does the ball joint seat in the spindle correctly? Or is it still loose?

What ball joints did you use? Do you have a brand and part #? Many on here have used MOOG. The MOG-K5103 (Lower) and MOG-K5108 (Upper) fit my 67.
