: Now here's a bargin trim tag....................
PROZ11 Jul 15th, 08, 07:36 AM The trim tag thing is becoming worse by the day and is becoming a big business on eBay. It doesn't seem to matter if they are real or not. It seems that the more people get away with it the more others are trying their hand at it. They are all scumbags as far as I'm concerened. Boy, is this starting to suck...
Check out this guy. Im sure he's not expecting to get that price but he will sell it off of eBay to the person with highest offer.

It also seems the "paint delete", X33D80 or both are the popular tags lately. Soon thee will be double the X33 tags out there than there were actual X33 cars. Here's another:

myyenco Jul 15th, 08, 08:36 AM What I find interesting is the second tag you have listed matches the description for a car the guy previously had listed that appears to have been shill bid on by a friend who also bought a mustang from him and gave him great feedback as in:
CAR WAS ALOT BETTER THAN DESCRIBED,VERY NICE GUY,VERY HELPFUL,VERY HAPPY,A++++++ Buyer: mroman1553 ( 4 ) May-14-08 05:59
Ford : Mustang (#150232117458)
Feedback for the car with VIN listed as 124379N703477 that was for sale with the X33 tag:
won this car but ended up buying another one he had, great seller very nice, A+++ Buyer: mroman1553 ( 4 ) Jun-13-08 12:06
Chevrolet : Camaro (#150252484675)
The other car he bought from him looks to be a month earlier and the seller didn't leave feedback for the buyer on either transaction.
Coincedently "mroman1553" recently also bought an X66 tag and now this X33 tag is for sale.
Things that make you go hmmmm.........

Here we go again... I wonder if you get to choose firing squad or hanging in Okie if convicted of this heinous crime?

Well, that tag should look familiar. Same seller, kystpolice2596 in Elizabethtown, KY, that had a 69 "Z" for sale: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150268118859&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fmotors.search.ebay.com%3A80%2F%3Ff rom%3DR40%26satitle%3D150268118859%26fvi%3D1.
Repro tag (NOR323538) stuck on another body, he got busted in this thread, http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=137286, and now is trying to sell the tag.......
The other tag seller is tcprkzl in Long Island, New York. 04C, X77, 711, --.
MikeCuttis Jul 15th, 08, 10:09 AM I dont think selling trim tags in his state is illegal. I looked up the motor vehical do's and dont and no where does it state trim tag removel or sell.
click Jul 15th, 08, 10:23 AM While Oklahoma has the first law on trim tags, my local State Senator will introduce similar legislation next Jan. when the leg. opens for work. Trim Tags are similar to VIN's when it comes to thieves. If all states would pass similar law or if the FEDS would just add Trim Tags to the VIN law, it would defeat the crooks.
MikeCuttis Jul 15th, 08, 10:34 AM Kurt S, the numbers are 249568 , by a responce to a email. So that isnt the same tag that was on his car he was selling.

Even though it may not be illegal to sell a real trim tag in most states it is fraud in any state to sell a repop tag as an original after weathering it and making up a story about it's originality. Which is what most of the trim tags for sale on eBay are. And the sellers who make up their own stupid disclamers are not exempt from fraud laws. Misleading buyers by selling repop tags as an originals is fraud, period. Now a lot of them try to cover themself with BS about how they got it from a guy back in the 80's who said he got it off of his Z-blah, blah, blah that junked. Still doens't make it any less of a fraud. It's too bad no one has ever bought one of these from a local seller and then sued the crap out of them and made an example out of one of these guys. I wouldn't be that hard to prove the fraud. That might get some of the sellers of fake tags attention.
MikeCuttis Jul 15th, 08, 10:50 AM PROZ11, I agree with your opinion but to your statment,(It's too bad no one has ever bought one of these from a local seller and then sued the crap out of them and made an example out of one of these guys. I wouldn't be that hard to prove the fraud. That might get some of the sellers of fake tags attention.) The buyer would be just as guilty as the seller. You know as well as I do that the buyer has the intent of putting the trim on his car rather than just a show peice. The buyer is in actuallity comiting more fraud than the seller because he is trying to make a vin numbered car somthing its not , and the seller is just selling a non vin related peice of aluminum.
Kurt S Jul 15th, 08, 11:46 AM Kurt S, the numbers are 249568 , by a responce to a email. So that isnt the same tag that was on his car he was selling.
Compare the pictures. They are the same. :)
DOUG G Jul 15th, 08, 01:53 PM Here's the tag w/o the numbers blanked :D

hatdragracer Jul 15th, 08, 06:12 PM Should one of us keep an ad going on ebay for the following item?
For sale "one sheet of paper that fully explains the legal and moral implications of selling a fake or reporoduction trim tag"
This sheet of paper would list common sources and lies told about the improper sale and application of these tags. It will also outline how easily these are spotted when applied to cars, and that a database is being maintained of false tags and cars. Is should also make clear that there are clear precedents where people have been held liable for selling cars under misleading circumstances.
If someone does buy our auction, then they are sent the piece of paper, and reinstate the ad with a new fresh copy of the piece of paper.
If no one buys or otherwise the entire contents of the paper are in the description and useful to educate would be buyers of other tags.
The ad should be placed in the trim tag section so it shows up in all the searches, and will hopefully take the wind out of the sails of folks selling trim tags.
It is not illegal to sell a piece of paper and might do some good in educating potential buyers...as long as we dont name the offending sellers by name.
Just a thought...I get tired of complaining about it and would like to do something about it.
sidewaz69z Jul 16th, 08, 06:15 AM In the thread about this trim tag on the Z that was for sale
http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=137286&page=5
didn't 69X77man post the following
the trim tag was just like he stated in the add. (i will have to do some more research on this since the drive train all matched) the firewall and cowl numbers matched the vin, so there was no funny stuff there.
Seems to me he got the trim tag with that great buy on the Z
Nows it for sale on ebay Seems to me 69X77man is also kystpolice2596
It also stated that kystpolice2596 has 11 more Camaros in a 15 car garage
I emailed him and asked about the trim tag and he told me to mind my own business!!
MikeCuttis Jul 16th, 08, 06:43 AM GOSH, DRAMA , Just like a soap opra in here. There was 95 post on this subject . Lets learn from it and let it die.

Seems like an odd statement from someone that joined the forum last week.

MikeCuttis Jul 16th, 08, 03:01 PM I actually joined over a year ago but I cant remember what email address I had then. I was just saying some things just get to be old news.

.....anyone notice that 69X77man has changed his profile name from Craig to "nobody" and his location from Tennessee to "an oki from maskoki"(Merle Haggard's song "Proud to be an Okie from Muskogee"). Judging from that email address of "Craig's"(kystpolice2596)I'd be willing to bet that he's involved in some way with the Kentucky State Police. I seem to remember "Craig" mentioning something about being "close to Elizabethon,Ky. Hmmm.............JMO;)

You know I think thats a great idea!!
It would at very least signal to potential buyers out there that some sneaky type of fraud is going on, and here's what to look for.
Just don't flat out explain on the paper how to exactly spot a fake tag, so the fake tags are still "fake looking" to the experts.
Sell it for cheap, like $5.00. Cheap education on buying something that can cost tens of thousands of dollars.
vincevs Jul 17th, 08, 11:58 AM I'll pictch in to help cover ebay fees...

I am too much of a newbie to write up...Seems like others in Tag Team like Rackman or the more experience regulars should pitch in content.
jd502 Jul 21st, 08, 08:12 PM I think KURT, JIM, AND MARK may be regular enough for a statement on this post. IMHO
