: Lq9 in my 68 camaro
s4dustin Jul 16th, 08, 10:03 AM The engine is in. It is coming back out, but I had adapter plates made by a friend with a CNC machine. He dropped them off at VCR this afternoon. Thanks Mehran. They are Sick. I will post pics tomorrow. They moved the engine 1 3/4 back to help distribute weight evenly.
I switched the oil pan to a camaro oil pan. I have to pull it off and have it modified a little. I was hoping by moving the engine 1 3/4 in bach it would clear the sway bar.. it doesnt.
Here are some pics....

DOUG G Jul 16th, 08, 01:22 PM Looks good so far. :D
Kokamo Aug 7th, 08, 12:07 PM Dustin, looks good man. I got my LS1/T56 done and am very happy with it.
I have two questions for you...
How much clearance do you have between the pan and the subframe? Position your measurement at the center rear of the crossover point of the subframe.
#2, what transmission and what X-member are you going to use?
Thanks,
Joe
JimM Aug 7th, 08, 12:55 PM Looking Good!
You'll love that motor, even pulling 5500 lbs of truck, she's very torquey and revs quick.
Is the truck intake gonna clear?
What about the front accessories?
69Project Aug 9th, 08, 06:47 PM It might clear with an after market cowl hood, but man those things are ugly.
dylanjans Sep 3rd, 08, 10:23 AM are you going with L92 heads and a carb set up?
Rhino Sep 4th, 08, 06:57 AM How much are you planning on notching the pan? I have the exact same setback planned, although haven't tried fitting it in yet.
If you really don't want to notch the pan you may try the shortest pitman and idler arms they used on the first gen. I've heard they clear with about 1/8" to spare.

I notched the pan pretty good, i have about a full inch. But, I also moved it back 2.5 inches.
As per the cross member, I havent yet chosen...i may try to fab one from the original...anyone done this? Trying to save some cash.
But, I have the engine and trans mated, and in the car....no crossmember yet, i have a chain going through the trans hole around a board holding it up.

I have the magnacharger to sit on top too.....WOWEEEE.
I still have to:
crossmember,
fuel lines to stock tank (maybe fuel cell depending on cash)
cut drive shaft
wire
wire guages
cross my fingers
hit the gas.
s4dustin Oct 4th, 08, 05:52 PM are you going with L92 heads and a carb set up?
Fuel injected, Magnacharger, stock heads for now.

you can see the notch in the pic of it on the cherry picker
67SS&99SS Oct 8th, 08, 10:05 AM Are you going to keep those shorty headers? LS based engines don't really gain but about 5-10 hp at the most from shorties. You really need a 1 7/8" full length header. Especially since you have a forced induction setup. I've seen dynos back to back of stock LS1s with 1 3/4" and 1 7/8" headers and the 1 7/8" made more power and torque across the entire power band. They will really compliment a future heads/cam swap too. The L92 heads that were mentioned earlier are the best budget head on the market. Huge power gains with a stock GM part. If your not familiar with LS1tech.com, take a look around over there especially in the internal/external genIII engine section and the conversion/hybrid section. Looks like your making good progress.

I missed your question the first time I went through this thread. Using the stock cross member is pretty popular. You'll more than likely need to cut it into thirds, move the center section back a few inches, and run plate between the pieces.
I thought about using the stock piece, but will probably end up building a tube cross member. I think the time to build one will be very similar to modifying the stock item.
s4dustin Oct 9th, 08, 07:10 PM I got those hedders for 100.00. for now they will work. later on, I will do a cam and head swap. I am also on ls1tech. I may be going with the classicchevy5speed kit to get it all together.
1967 Plum Nov 2nd, 08, 05:56 PM Wow, sounds like a fun build. Also sounds similar to my plan.
I just purchased an LQ9 (have not received it yet). My car is a '67 SS/RS. I'm about finished with the sheet metal. Have a Hotchkis TVS suspension system and BMR tubular A-arms. Yet to pick up T56, Wilwood brakes and Moser 12 bolt.
Good luck with your build and keep us posted!
blackl78 Nov 21st, 08, 06:33 AM Interested to know what year and models the LQ9 engine are in?? This thread is becoming very interesting!!

Thanks for the link Jon, Now I See. My 03 Sierra HD is a LQ4 I have a friend who just started up a salvage business and I could have him looking for these engines for me.
