my camaro has manual steering now and want to change to power without the cost of going to the unisteer type of rack set up. done alot of research here on the forum and found the stickys on the 3rd gen boxes. read all those but still have ?'s.
1.will the box i listed above work
2.what type and year ps pump and lines will i need?
3.new rag joint- can use one of the parts listed in the sticky?
4.what length pitman and idler and from what model?

Any other forseeable problems?
Thanks in advance for all your info guys and gals!

My web page shows how to measure steering box ratio with a degree wheel. The only way to ID an IROC box is to read the two letter code ink stamped on the top aluminum cap, and the aluminum end plug. IF those are not visible, then measuring is the only way left. Casting codes or stamps on the cover can help determine if it's an early or late box but only in a general way. Early boxes started with a 5, late started with a 7.

Rag joint in the sticky is the one you want.

Pitman can be long or short as long as it's for a first gen.
If your outer steering arms are long, then you might want a long pitman, if the outers are short, then the short would be plenty fast, but the long pitman might be desireable if you want the steering to be REALLY fast, this might be good for autocross, etc, but may be too fast for some drivers.

Any pump would work, the first gen pumps are easier to make fit the early pulley system. If you have a 69 pulley set, with long water pump, then most pumps from 69 to early 80's and bracket would work, you need to adapt the hose ports on the box, lee Manufacturing is a good source, he also has the rag joint.
