I have a spare 12 bolt housing with a posi carrier but no gears or axles. I It has its tubes welded to the pumpkin. The casting date on the pumpkin is May 20 1968.
My question is I cannot find the code on the tube. I have wire wheeled the entire axle and no stamp at all. Does anyone know if this possible?
ps. I really looked, I have another BS coded 12 bolt and a BP coded 10 bolt and I easily found those.

Are you sure it is the original axle tube?
Tubes can get replaced for a variety of reasons.
What is the casting number on the pumpkin?

Yes it is possible. I worked at a gm dealer in the 70's and we had to replace axle housings occasionally under warranty when there was a machining defect, and re-use axles, gears etc..
The rear axle assembly in my 08A X77 car has no stamping. I assume it was replaced under warranty. Casting date is the last week of June 1969, I think the 28th, but don't remember for sure. Even though it just barely predates the car, I doubt it went in without a code stamped on it.

I thought maybe it was a warranty axle. the casting has a date code of E208. I am wondering what it is worth since I need to sell it. I will check in the other forum.
Thanks
