please help 68 camaro standard coupe;

my winshield wipers only work when i turn on the wipers by pushing in on the knob which causes the wipers to turn on spray water then shut off, the only way the wipers work is when it is pumping water which causes me to push in and hold, the 2 speeds slow and fast dont work, i replaced the motor with a new one and it still only works when im pushing in and holding, im thinking the switch could be bad or i have a bad ground, but if i had a bad ground im thinking it wouldnt work at all?

Is the switch bad only opening one circuit or something?

Sure sounds like you either have a bad Dash Switch or the Wires are not connected to it. It may even be wired in reverse. To see if the Wiper motor will respond to live Switch Control place the switch in Hi or Low Speed position and take a voltage reading on the power terminals of the Wiper Motor. You can also check the Wiper Motor by simply running a jumper from the positive terminal of the battery to these terminals. They power Hi, Low and Reverse Park if a Hide-Away System. There should be a Ground strap from the Wiper Motor Casing to one of the Bolts that run through Rubber Mounting Brackets.

I put all new harnesses in my car.

Did the same thing..you can trouble shoot with the wiring schematic found in the asm manual but the cure (for me) was to swap the light blue and dark blue wires in the connector under the dash (or at the dash switch I dont remember which).

As Z15 suggests it sounds like its wired wrong.

I used two different vendors for the underhood harness and the underdash..not sure which of them was wrong...the under dash is my guess...

Did you buy a new harness?

Let us know what you find!

The wiper switches dont last forever
I rebuilt mine anout 16 yrs ago, lasted for a few more, then replaced it
Watch for the little springs when pulling the tabs back.

i put my hand in the back of the switch and giggled the wires and it worked, i had to drop the steering column to get to it work now i guess i just bought and installed a new mortor for nothing but at least it will last for a while to come,
