Was wondering if anyone knows what these numbers mean on my brake hold off valve ( valve located on frame rail ) 135-8. Valve is on a 68 SS and according to trim tag was produced in the 5th week of May. was just wondering if any chance this is the orginal valve. Thanks in advance.

Yes, the 135-8 denotes the 135th day of 1968. A quick calculation puts the date in mid-May of 68. 135 days would be May 15th, assuming no leap year in 68.

Just to clarify the frequently-confused terminology, the valve on the subframe is a proportioning valve; the round valve under the master cylinder between the distribution block and the front brakes is the hold-off valve, also known as the metering valve.

now that were on the subject are they both used (installed) at the same time or would you only have one or the other? or what i mean is do all 69's come with hold off valve and the prop. valve is optional dependent on model.

The metering valve came with all 69 disc cars.
The prop valve came on some cars. As discussed in http://www.camaros.org/suspen.shtml#BrakeRegulatorValve, the useage is confusing.

Here's the Julian date generator:

My 69 came with a prop valve and was manual drum brake car. I have AC, guessing this is what triggered the install.

My 69 started life as a s/b th350 with A/C. The original brake line was still on it when I got it, but it did not have the prop valve on the subframe. I don't know if there was metering valve by the booster from the factory, as the booster assembly had been traded out for one from a Z before I bought the car. The swapped out assembly did have the metering valve.

I appreciate all of the response to the question I asked here but now I have another. Were these valves common on big block cars with power disc brakes in 68? I read the CRG info and it was really vague just wondering. Mine is a big block car and as I stated earlier I am trying to figure out if the valve is orginal and if the car is an orginal big block car. Thanks in advance

Nope, not in 69. What engine and trans and axle did your car come with?

The info is vague cause there's no hardfast rules on the valve.
Yes, your valve is original, but that doesn't shed any light on whether the car was a BB.
