is the shaft smaller than the original box? if so, then get a Dorman part #31011 rag joint, which will cost anywhere from $50-$70, depending on what kind of a deal you get. it is sold in the "Help!" brand, so you know what catalog to tell the clueless counter kid at Autozone to look in.

Sounds like you have a Lee Manufacturing box, which in all likelihood is the later model, 3rd gen style box. You can contact them at:

Lee Manufacturing Co
11661 Pendleton St
Sun Valley, CA 91352

(818) 768-0371

They sell the later model coupler/rag joint. It is also sold by GM; I'll do a search to find the part number.

Part numbers are listed in the "swap" section here: http://www.pozziracing.com/camaro_steering.htm#Steering%20box%20and%20ratio%2 0info

Check and make sure the box already has flare seats in the pressure and return ports, so that the OE style lines will hook up. If not, you probably just want to get the falre seat adapters and rag joint as a kit from Lee.

If that's what it turns out to be, you should be happy with it. Tom Lee makes good stuff, and the higher effort/feel of a later model box is a vast improvement over an original pinky steer 1st gen box.

in addition to the rag joint i already mentioned, the flare adapters are as close as the closest store to you that sells Eaton Weatherhead fittings. if you don't know of any place, then go to www.fastenal.com and search for "power steering adapters". they sell for less than $9 a piece, and you should be able to find them locally.
another option is to find a set of later model PS lines that will work for you- for putting an 86 Monte SS box in my 74 Monte, i got a pressure line for an 80 Camaro- but first gen Camaros might be tricker, what with the rear steer configuration that puts the steering box more towards the back of the engine.
i also grabbed the fitting off the PS pump of the car i took the box out of- it screws right into the stock PS pump. i haven't gotten around to swapping it in yet- it's been kind of hot out, and i'm becoming a wimp when it comes to working on cars out in the sun..

That's no lie...I had to argue with the "kid" that my Z has a 302 in it.....but that's a ford engine was his response...

I've been plugging them all over the place, but only because they know what they are talking about. Call the guys at Lares (http://www.larescorp.com/) and tell them what you have. They will sell you the correct rag joint (and cheaper than most).

The coupler part numbers on my web page are GM numbers. Any GM dealer can order them.
