What is the correct battery cable length for the pos and neg cables for a small block.
Thanks

I took mine out and they measure:
pos - 48"
neg - 25"
Still would like to know what the correct lengths are.

Resurrecting this thread... did a couple searches with a wide range of answers.

I'm, looking for the correct Neg and Pos battery cable lengths for a '68 Small Block (350). Top post battery terminals. Want to buy new cables before removing the old ones so measuring the orig cables is kinda tough.

Thanks,
Dave

Maybe you can use tape or string to measure the cables while in the car.

Good ideas Chuck,

The problem is that my current cables are not original and I think they are too long. The negative battery cable has lots of slack (and kinda flops around) which may have led to the engine ground terminal eye becoming loose on the cable. On the other hand - I don't want to make the cables too short for obvious reasons.

Thanks again,
Dave

You could also make dummy cables out of a small gauge wire or a piece of stiff rope. I would think that making your best guess then adding 2 inches wouldn't result in anything too long.

I too will be replacing my cables soon and the old ones are incorrect. The autozone website calls out the following for top post application:

NEG: 2 gauge (or 4) 38" with extra lead
POS: 2 gauge (or 4) 56" with extra lead

Not sure if that is correct but I'm going to try to use my old cables as a guide and see if that's right.
