View Full Version : What is the definition of a "Plain Jane"?
Truck Jul 24th, 08, 11:44 AM What is the definition of a "Plain Jane"? I have seen this term used concerning Camaro's. Is it anything that is not a RS or Convertible? I have a 67 Camaro, Granada Gold, Gold Interior, Black Bumble Bee Stripe around nose, Pin Stripes down side, 327 and 3-Speed on floor. I don't think this is a Plane looking car. Would mine be considered a Plane Jane?
Truck Jul 24th, 08, 11:47 AM Sorry for the spelling.
I sound as said "Plain Jane"
67 Convertible Jul 24th, 08, 11:52 AM A plain jane is more or less a base model car without many options. It wouldn't be an RS or SS or a Z28.
I have a '67 Convertible, 327/275hp. Though it's a convertible, it's a plain jane...not an RS or SS.
BlackoutSteve Jul 24th, 08, 12:42 PM My Camaro too.
Ticked on the option list from what I can work out was 327, auto, console (floorshift) and next to nothing else apart from the paint and interior color choices.
DjD Jul 24th, 08, 01:06 PM Plain Jane comes from "Jane" being the female for John, as in John Doe and Jane Doe used in reference to unidentifed persons. Plain is just that - simple and modest; unadorned or basic. The two together probably because they rhyme typically describe a girl or woman that doesn't make herself up, doesn't wear provocative clothing and doesn't wear a lot of jewlery. A basic model car is often refered to as a plain Jane for the same reasons...

okiemark Jul 25th, 08, 10:49 AM someday, the "plain jane" camaro may be the rarest of them all.

Odds of finding a fake tag with no options would be rare:yes:
captcanuck68 Jul 26th, 08, 08:25 PM Hmmm? And I always thought that a "Plain Jane" was just that at 10 o'clock, but a 10 at 2 o'clock.;)

Joe Harrison Jul 26th, 08, 11:04 PM My 67 is a Jane. LOS built 67 327 2BBL, power glide, buckets no console, 2:73 rear gear, butternut yellow with Ca emissions, AM radio, power steering, 4 wheel manual drums & hub caps on reg steel wheels. No stripes of any sort.
Nothing special but in another 20-30 years she might get the full Jane resto so I can will it to my kids in original condition.

jlb307 Jul 27th, 08, 07:47 PM there's absolutely nothing wrong with a "plain jane."
i don't really like the term because it makes our cars seem undesirable.
don't get me wrong. i wouldn't turn down an SS, RS, or Z if i could get one, but with all the clones and tributes that are being made from "plain janes", our rides are becoming rarer and rarer.
as long as it's not a 6.....:p

I was thinking of getting a personalized plate for my 67 that says 67 PJC.
I personaly don't mind the term and use it allot when talking about my 67. I think it says more about what it is than what it is not. When the term comes up I usally just call her a JANE and leave out plain. Some people get it but most don't and it needs to be explained because the first thing they ask is "is that an SS or Z28?". Tell them no it's just a JANE and the conversation begins. The funny thing is some people will insist that it's an SS or Z/28.......don't ask me why? I just roll with it, it's all good.

Garfields Maro Aug 11th, 08, 02:25 AM Hey 67for/me, looks exactly like my first car.....nice to see!:) Always considered it a Jane with the 210 & PG but lookin back on it now, it had deluxe turqoise, console & tilt......not all that plain. 'course I had to add Cragars and blue Z stripes:D:o
First post here for me.....excellant website! The amount of knowledge and experience is outstanding! Thanx
ButternutYellow Aug 11th, 08, 08:02 AM No such thing as a Plain Jane 1st Gen, this car is so special!!!
Also, the huge number of options makes it almost impossible to find two that are alike. And one with NO options? That would be special, and it likely was never made

True because then that would be a COPO, not a plain jane.
Daytona Yellow 69 Z/28 Aug 11th, 08, 01:10 PM A Plain Jane is a Non pedigree car.

Man, I really like that car!!
It kinda reminds me of the 409 Biscaynes and 427 Caprices of a few years earlier. The only thing better would be if you told me it was a L30/M20. I love that look!
Flat hoods rule!
67for/me Aug 11th, 08, 05:41 PM I wish:yes: she has a 327/210hp 2 BL carb bone stock. 10 bolt one legger. Had single exhaust changed to dual transverse muffler factory correct of course.
Thanks

jr68 Aug 11th, 08, 06:22 PM so then my car would be a plain Jane clone ,
