View Full Version : wipers will not shut off SatisTraction Jul 25th, 08, 07:05 PM HELP, LOL. my wipers will not shut off after a restore. i even pulled the swith and they kept going and going and going. :) where do i start? thanks Badbird Jul 25th, 08, 07:12 PM That's weird!!....It sounds like a wiring problem!....Better unplug the connector at the wiper motor or you'll run down your battery and wear out the wiper blades! SatisTraction Jul 25th, 08, 07:14 PM LOL, i got that far :) JimM Jul 25th, 08, 07:28 PM The wipers get power all the time. The switch is on the ground side to complete the circuit. There is a park switch inside the wiper motor that holds the ground on (even with the wiper switch off) The switch is opened by the park cam, when the wipers are at the bottom of thier sweep. You gotta busted wiper motor. It might be fixable, but you'll hafta go pretty far inside it. camaroman3 Jul 26th, 08, 01:16 AM Just an idea. I did a bench test on my wiper motor and switch tonight. I did find out if both low speed and high speed wire are not making good contact. The wiper motor will not shut off. I know this because i just had the slow speed wire hooked up and it would not shut off. check all conections good before pulling motor apart. Does it change the way the motor runs if you turn the switch from off to low or high? When mine done this it would kinda pause and then go when the switch was off. turn switch on and it would run at an even pace. just something to try. Good luck. let us know how it turns out. Ken SatisTraction Jul 26th, 08, 02:41 AM thanks for the info. i will dig deeper tomorrow. Steptoe Jul 26th, 08, 02:59 AM As Jim says The wipers get power all the time. The switch is on the ground side to complete the circuit. The wiper unit is mounted on rubber groments...are u sure that your motors is not grounding thru the mount? Had a similar issue yrs ago when I rebuilt the camaro, althu the mounts looked sort of ok, when reinstalled, where not...took me ages with my head in the ciruit diagram book, switch connector blocks... My brother in law a Auto sparky, took 2 mins to figure out the problem without even opening the hood. KevinW Jul 26th, 08, 06:09 AM The wipers get power all the time. You gotta busted wiper motor. It might be fixable, but you'll hafta go pretty far inside it. Jim is on the right track here. Wiper motor get power and ground all the time, but the ground path is opened by the parking cam and the switch. If you close the ground at the switch the motor starts and then ground is going through both switch and parking cam contacts. Once you switch off, the parking cam keeps the ground going until the cam opens the ground (this thing is internal behind the back cover). So if it keeps going either you have a faulty switch or the cam contacts are still touching all the time. |
