Hi all,

What kind of adhesive/sealant is used to install the 6 floor and trunk pan plugs? Seam sealer? I have a 67 coupe.

Thanks

Seriously? That's not how they were installed when I took them out.

I thnk he left out the smiley... mine had a dish in them looking down from the inside. The raised portion of the plug locates it in the hole. OR at least it will on my car.

The plug goes up so the floor is level. If you put the "dimple" down you would have this big dip in the floor. This was confirmed on CRG. No joke.

Well I'll be...I didn't think this could be true (the raised part goes up) until I looked at the '69 in the garage that is still original and sure enough, the dimple goes up. It does not matter when you look up from below as there is a cavity built up in the pan. But I suppose installing them with the dimple down might defeat their purpose somewhat. I just put all new ones in my '68 in upside down!

And to answer the original question, yes, seam sealer. lay a big bead 1/2 or so around the lip of the floor, take plug and press down. Makes sure it oozes up around the plug evenly, do not touch the sealer that oozes out. :)

Weird... I notciced (on my floorpan anyway) that the rear holes have a flange around them that faces up, which fits inside the dimple. It makes sense then that the rear dimples should face up. On the front holes though, the flange faces down. So all 4 inside and the 2 in the trunk install dimple side up? Sorry to get off the topic of the original post :)

You can install them any way you like, but The General installed them "Dimple Up"
