I looked at this car about a year ago, I think KURT may even have pics of tags in db. I tried to look for the old link when it was discussed, but no luck. Can you guys let me know what you think about the authenticity of it. I have a friend that really likes it. I personally think the tag looks a little funny to me, but I'm no expert. thanks. I dont think this link is going to work sorry.

They started in 12B with the X codes..

I wouldn't be so quick to call that one a fake....It looks pretty good.

I went to check it against my 12B Database.....and my entire database disappeared off my desktop...and I had not backed it up in over a year....so I lost over 3/4 of my entire database....I'm, so pissed right now!

My two nephews have been over for a few days...God only knows what they did on this computer.....I've searched everywhere.....and it's gone:mad:

Ok...I'm done ranting!

I have, a restoration tool on my pen drive to retrieve stuff that has been deleted from a hard drive or sd cards etc. You might be searching for a LONG time but you will eventually find it. do a search for "restoration tool".

good luck !!

I'd say that if you look at the details in the pictures this car could very well be a X77. Throttle linkage looks like Z/28, it has discbrakes and powerbrakes.

Dan, I lost my hard drive, bought a new one and then used "file scavenger" to recover them. Found all the files on the old hard drive. you can download it and trial it to see what it finds (finds deleted files too as long as the data sector was not written over). Then you pay around $50 to do the actual restore. worked for me! Luck!

I'm certainly no expert on tags but I'm trying to figure out what you see when calling one a fake. I can't tell that this tag has been off the cowl, the rivets look good to me. This car has a clear pic of the speedo cable coming out of the firewall in the correct spot for a Z. If the VIN hasn't been off the dash I'd say the drive train is original to THIS car and go for it. I know the seller has alot of knowledge of early camaros, When I looked at it, I wanted to see the motor, but he never came up with it. He put me off about 5 or 6 times. Know I scared to recommend it to my friend. He definitly knows what needs to be done to make it look real. I do hope this is a real car. At that price if real, does anyone think its a pretty good deal?

Thanks Mark, This seller is pretty close to me. I guess I should be careful of other stuff he has for sale.
Also I take it the block is a restamp.

Engine is restamp. I think the trans is a restamp too.

Seller is vig21 in Andalusia, PA.

Some on hit the buy it know price of 15000.00. I guess this will probably end up a jl8 or xram car. I know the seller knew about it. He was way to knowledgable about the early camaro when I looked at it.

I don't know about you guys, but I sure appreciate having Kurt and Mark C chiming in on these threads. The tag was an easy call, but it sure helps to have a pic of the previous tag on the same car. Even the date the pic was taken. BUSTED!

However, absent the above info, I would not have been able to determine the engine stamping to be fake. Pretty clever to have the block decked (perhaps a second time!) after restamping to make it look more authentic.

Thanks Kurt.

Thanks Mark.

Doesn't the casting date in the photo right next to the deck stamp photo show a 12/28 casting date, or am I reading it wrong? Only 5 weeks after the deck stamp date! Whoops:o

Misread the photo. Isn't it 12/8/68? Only 17 days later than deck date.:o

Got a few emails from seller, he left a phone #, so I called:D. Man was he pissed after 5 minute of bashing this site and the people on it. He told me that more than six people warned the buyer of the car. The deal fell thru. Also I think he wants to kick my a** now:boxing:. It is funny people tend to tell the truth when angry, he started by saying that this is how he got it, and at one point told me he could get anything restamped. I would like to thank all of you on this site that helped me out. I would of had a friend pissed at me if I told him to buy it.
