I am wanting to cut my new stock springs for my 67. I have been reading all over this and searching. Have found some stuff on cutting springs but nothing that really tells me what I want to know. I am wanting to drop the front of the car about 2" or so. Now when I cut the spring the first coil is shorter that the rest because of the way that it is built. My question is how much will the first coil that is shorter take off of my ride height. Everyone says about 1 coil for 2" of drop but is that the first coil or will I have to go into the second coil to get the desired results. I know this is not an exact science and I will probably have to do this a couple of times until I get what I want I would just like to do it in the least amount of times as possible.

I know this is not an exact science
It is an exact science...the tempering temps, number of coils, compression per coil, amount of travel all changes...not just the height.

There is tons of info on here. Do a search using different combos of words. Ive read tons of info about it. I ended up buying hotchkis 2" drop after it all.

I bought a 1.5” lowering spring and cut a full coil more off of it, (on a 2nd gen) and dropped it to the top of the tire. I had almost 5” between the top of the tire and the bottom of the fender wheel opening before I started.

If they are new and can be returned, IMO you would be better off getting ones with the required drop built in.

i cut 1 full coil off the end where the coils were NOT spaced closer together and got about 2" of drop.

look at some pics here: http://www.camaros.net/forums/album.php?albumid=23

It may drop the right ride height for looks...but u have removed a good proportion of the 'stiffness' out of the springs...this results in bottoming out easier, wollowing more on cornering and messing up steering geometry when cornering, and to get NEAR right requires a lot of compensation and experimentation when setting alignments
A big pain in the butt ....further down the line...
OH u may not notice it, but drive a camaro that has the correct springs and geometry and u will be sry u cut and not replaced...
Been there done that....
And now with the right springs, the car cnrs like a go kart..
Bottom line, get the right spring...

Doesn't cutting a spring increase its rate since it has less coils?

BB here tho...

Send them back and get a pair of MOOG 5536's and cut a coil off the top of them, Imho..................

I stock clock cut my 5536's and then a cut coil off the bottom under my 496 BB and you talk about low w/ a good ground clearance!
