Seems like I have heard about a better, thicker front spoiler that is available. Has anyone bought one? The thin repro I bought 5 years ago has cracked just from driving.

Gary,
I am looking for the same for my 68'.
I believe Rick's has 3 offerings but have not confirmed.
Let me know what you find, I will do the same.

Gary - Call Steve's 800 544-4451 and get the $35 repro he offers. It's not brittle but will break if you hit something with it which is better than having it so solid it passes damage on to other parts of the car... I use the fender braces but leave the center brace off because it pulled in on the spoiler causing it to look warped when light is reflected off it. Bottom line it's a nice piece for the price and it is replacable if you hit a curb stone and crack it...

I will call Steve. All of my braces are on and I have not had a problem with clearance on driveways or tire stops. Mine just cracked from wind vibration (I think). It is a very thin reproduction.

I just bought a front spoiler for my '69 from my local parts guy. It was made by Dii GT (P/N 1047V).

I can tell you this is a piece of *&^%. It is thicker than the GM one I'm replacing, but that is part of the issue. The Dii spoiler's "V" does not match the the shape of the lower valance, and trying to bend it to fit distorts the hell out of it.

2nd problem - all the holes are trilled for 3/8" bolts. The original spoiler was drilled for 1/4-20 (or maybe 5/16) for the outer locations. They are also molded in very badly - oval shapped and motley.

3rd problem - there are mold marks on the front that looks like drip lines. Even with plastic polish and "Back to Black" it still is an uneven color that looks like crap.

4th problem - Made in Tiawan proudly and boldly molded into the back side. Wonderful.

That said - are the Goodmark spoilers better? What brand does "Steve" sell, and is it better than the one described here?

I would really like to find one with the smaller 1/4" mounting holes (or none at all) on for the outer edge - and one that actually matches the "V" of the vallance whithout having to bend it into shape.

I would like to mention that I tried matching it up to both my original GM valance and the the Goodmark one on the car now, and it did not fit either.

Any advise or recomendations would be appreciated.

Thanks!

OK,

I hear that Rick's is stocking a spoiler made by CHQ (Rick's P/N SB-4, CHQ P/N W-367). It is at least suposed to be made in the USA and have the 1/8" holes for a 1/4-20 bolt.

Can anyone confirm the fit and finish of this part?

Thanks!

Keith

That's funny! I don't feel so bad about my Taiwanese horn, my Mexican engine block nor my Chinese crankshaft now! Hard to avoid anymore.

PS I was in Harbor Fright the the other day and was surprised tp learn that Chicago and Pittsburgh have both been moved to China. When did that happen?

It's how Walmart grew.
So, why isn't the original spoiler available? It holds up because it can take a licking.
Trust me. It's there, and original.

Hey, if it was made in Tiawan and fit, I wouldn't have an issue. It was just that the dii spolier was a complete piece of junk.

I recieved the CHQ spoiler, and it is a much better part. Nice solid matte black finish, and all the holes were the correct size and in the correct spots. Basically, it fit and looks good - vs. looking like crap and not fitting.

Hope this helps someone latter.

hey i bought one off of ebay from tamaraz. kinda thought quality was rather low until i read this thread. I used 1/4" self tappers and left the braces off. i didnt like the look. so far no probs with cracking or splitting. No warpage either, that i can tell, although havent looked when lights are reflecting off of it.
