Anyone know where I can get the double male fitting that goes into the back of the power steering pump and into the power steering hose? Can't seem to find one big enough locally.

View Full Version : Power Steering Pump Fitting... mbmmca Jul 27th, 08, 02:02 PM Anyone know where I can get the double male fitting that goes into the back of the power steering pump and into the power steering hose? Can't seem to find one big enough locally. mbmmca Jul 27th, 08, 07:18 PM I've been looking at Jegs and Summit, and will try work tomorrow. Does anyone happen to know what the sizes are that I need to match? One end goes into the power steering pump and the other into the hose. Both ends need to be male. JimM Jul 27th, 08, 10:43 PM Marybeth, have you looked a davidpozzi's site, he has some stuff there. mbmmca Jul 28th, 08, 04:47 AM Yes, actually I did. Unfortunately I didn't see anything on the fitting, but did find good info on hose modifications. camjoe63 Jul 28th, 08, 08:14 AM MaryBeth, I ran into this same problem as you are going through right now. What I did was to purchase a fitting from Detroit Speed.here is the link. http://www.detroitspeed.com/productpages/indproduct/steeringprod/ps_fitting_prod.htm Then I took the fitting to my local NAPA store and they made me a hose. That was it. The cost was aprox $37. Also if you decide to do this...make sure that the fittings are 30 degrees offset from each other. The high pressure lines will not twist like OE ones.I went through this for the 3rd gen box swap and I am happy how it came out. chops Jul 28th, 08, 04:53 PM Try your local hydraulic hose shop, not auto store. I bought a double male coupler for $5. mbmmca Jul 28th, 08, 09:09 PM This is Fenton. Closest I have is TSC (that I know of) and they didn't have anything. I'll keep looking. Thanks davidpozzi Jul 28th, 08, 10:57 PM If your pump has the female fitting, just get a pressure hose for a 1974 Nova, it uses the same subframe as a Camaro but by 1974 the pump fitting was changed to female type. If you don't have an outlet fitting at all, make sure you have the internal valve and spring too. David mbmmca Jul 29th, 08, 05:00 AM I'll check that out as well. Thanks David. I did catch the info you have on your site regarding hoses heating up. We'll take that into account as well. davidpozzi Jul 29th, 08, 11:49 PM You won't have heating problems just crusing around, but if you autocross or drive the car hard on twisty roads a cooler would be nice. 3rd gen Camaros used a loop of tubing running over to the passenger side and back, this loop of plain steel tube acts as a cooler. It runs parallel to the anti roll bar. You can also buy a thread in adapter to convert the pump to male outlet. PS PUMP OUTLET ADAPTER FEMALE TO MALE 3/8" INVERTED FLARE TO S.A.E. FLARE ADAPTER . Edelmann #252660 Everco #805E Weatherhead #1563 Here is my updated hose list, the scout II hose is probably the best for a 67 Camaro. It was reported to work but I don't know how well. First gen PS pressure hoses: 69 powercraft hose 70248 for male pump outlet stock pump/box. 68 powercraft hose 70230 for male pump outlet stock pump/ box Powercraft/Edelman hose #70973 72 - 79 Scout II for female pump outlet good choice for a 67 or 68 with pump mounted to the block, this hose has a male 90 deg tube on each end. powercraft 70254 Nova 70 - 72, matches a 69 hose but for female pump. Powercraft 70270 Nova 73 - 74. fits female pump, pump end similar to 69 camaro, but box end has more metal tube and less hose, should prevent damage to the hose near headers. All above are for PS boxes with std flare fittings, none fit the 3rd gen boxes with O ring fittings. Adapters can be used. |
