: Just for fun - guess what I'd run on BFG radial T/A's
Eric68 Aug 29th, 03, 11:11 AM Well today was the beginning of the Berger Chevy weekend event and my Hoosiers (to my suprise) had cord showing  I had to quick change back to my street tires which are BFG 225-60R15 radial TA's. Nothing fancy.
Since this wasn't a real competitive event (just for fun) I decided to run anyways. Thought you guys would have fun trying to guess - so far my best ET on slicks is in my sig . . .
Fastest pass = _______@______ MPH
Slowest pass = _______@______ MPH
The winner gets the half pound of rubber I peeled off my rear quarters graemlins/clonk.gif
BigRed-L72 Aug 29th, 03, 12:01 PM OK....fastest pass 12.48 @ 110 with a 1.91 60ft
slowest pass 13.00 @ 110 2.20 60 ft
If I win you can keep the prize I`ve got access to all I want smile.gif
Eric I`ve been thinking.....your MPH was probably around 112-113, that`s my reconsidered guess and I`m sticking to it!! graemlins/beers.gif

camaroman7d Aug 29th, 03, 12:12 PM I would have to guess 12.80 @ 111. You are experienced so I bet the first 60 ft (also the slowest run) would have been 2.2* and the E.T was 13.10 @ 111. I will also pass on the prize I have a factory that can make all I need (and more sometimes)

travis Aug 29th, 03, 12:38 PM Based on what a buddy of mines semi-similarly built '72 nova ran on bfg 235/60-15's, I am not going to be quite so optimistic tongue.gif I am going to say, slowest pass 13.30@110, fastest 12.90@110. My buddies car on street tires would turn sideways if he stood on it at 60mph
racin69z Aug 29th, 03, 12:53 PM If you milked it off the line I would say fastest of 12.0's. If you just matted it probably 12.60's-12.90's. All at between 112-115 mph.
I have played on radials some myself, and it really depends on how good the track is and what kind shape your radials were in. I ran some bald 295 50 15 mastercraft avengers that I sprayed with formula V traction compound and my car went 11.77 @114 at Gateway. I think the 60's were in the 1.75-1.78 range. The 1/8 times were in the 7.50's. My car would only run 7.30's on slicks in the 1/8 at the time.
So--whattedyado?
ORENCH Aug 29th, 03, 01:09 PM This is entertainig man! 13.1 @ 109??? With big clouds of smoke?? :D
Tracy Focht Aug 29th, 03, 03:29 PM 12.75@110
DOUG G Aug 30th, 03, 01:34 AM 13.8@107 slowest
12.4@112 fastest
and I have all I need, but how to get it out the wells?....lol
cavemanmoron Aug 30th, 03, 03:00 AM 13.9
@98mph
2.4 60 ft
Eric68 Aug 30th, 03, 12:14 PM Doug G, I used a little Windex - it came off real easy, but I figure it didn't stick to the track so why would it stick to my quarter panels or wheel wells? LOL
Racin69Z, street tires were at least 90% tread left before (like new). Now they have 60-75% tread remaining after 9 passes (that's without any water box burnouts, just a quick spin to get them clean).
Keep the guesses coming - this is fun. LOL I'll let you guys know sometime on Monday :D
67_camaro Aug 30th, 03, 12:59 PM Assuming you try and not blow away the tires on the launch I figure you'll loose .5 and only 2 MPH. My wife had a flat with her slicks so we put her street BFG radial T/A's and this is what she lost, she went on to semi finals on street tires! Your times are close to hers so I 'should' be close...

Lonnie67 Aug 31st, 03, 05:26 PM fastest- 12.70 @ 115
slowest- 13.25 @ 114
6D9 Aug 31st, 03, 09:05 PM 12.88 fastest
13.12 slowest
Eric68 Sep 1st, 03, 04:03 AM drumroll please . . . . . . .
The winners of the 1/2 pound of BFG rubber are . . .
Lonnie67 with the slowest run -
13.25 @ 110 mph. 60' time 2.25 sec. (last run)
On this run it spun out of the hole so I got out of the gas and shifted to 2nd where it promptly spun again, got out of it and shifted to 3rd. I almost wondered if there wasn't something on the track 'cause it was like driving on an ice-skatin' rink. I still beat the stock LS1 Camaro in the other lane. LOL
Fastest run: Racin69Z was closest -
11.97 @ 113.8 MPH. 60' time was 1.87 sec.
I watched from the staging lanes until they prepped the track and got the good lane. Eased into it off the line and short shifted into second. This was my 8th run.
I made a total of 9 passes with four 12.2's (2.0 60' times), a 12.4, a 12.5, and a 12.8. Believe it or not I was pretty consistent off the line with 2.0 sec 60' times feathering the gas, the real problem was shifting into second --- the slower runs are where the tires smoked on the 1 - 2 shift.
Thanks for playin'

PS. I pick up the new slicks tommorow :D
Thank God
travis Sep 1st, 03, 04:36 AM Dang, I was close on the slowest time...only .05 off but right on the mph. Kinda missed the fastest time though :D That is very  running an 11 on little ol' street tires though. Doesn't seem like that long ago you was struggling to get there with sticky tires.
Goes to show you don't need big honkin' rubber to run 11's. Of course, there's that consistancy thing :D

BigRed-L72 Sep 1st, 03, 04:48 AM Very impressive to run 11.97 @ 113.8 mph on a T/A sized tire that I run on the FRONT of my car smile.gif
cavemanmoron Sep 1st, 03, 04:53 AM WOW those are some Great times!!
What are you running for rear gears, and
what suspension tricks?
{or some of them,at least?}
I have not been to the track this year,
but the last few times i went i spun so bad its sad.
Thanks!

Eric68 Sep 2nd, 03, 02:07 AM Thanks big red. They are pretty small tires, I run smaller yet on my front ;) Next time I'm due for new rear tires I want to find something that is a little stickier for the street.
Caveman - No real suspension tricks - just 90/10's in front and SSM lift bars in back. The key with street tires IMO is being able to ease into the throttle off the line - keeping them on the edge of breaking loose. Gears are 3.55's, stall is 3000-3500.
