I have 89' Camaro RS 5.0 it has this garggling sound coming from the bottom of the engine. A friend mentioned it might be the radiator not having enough water. I'm no expert but I can't SEE what the problem might be. I would really be greatfull for the problem to be solved.

When the engine is cold, after it has been sitting overnight, remove the radiator cap and look at the coolant level.

Level should be to the top of the radiator. if not, add a 50/50 mix of coolant with distilled water to bring it up. Change the radiator cap when same like and kind. If level is an inch or two down, you might add some, but not reuired at this time.

check coolant color. If orange, use Dexcool. If green, use Prestone brand.

Also, look for the coolant reservior.
Is there coolant in it? If not, add some, maybe a third of the way up.
Is there a hole in the reservior? Replace and refill.

Have a mechanical friend show you where the coolant is coming from.
Could be a loose hose clamp, broken hose, broken radiator, alot of things. Sight is the key.
If coming from a pulley, could be a bad water pump seal meaning the coolant system will have to be drained, and water pump replaced. along with the thermostat and radiator cap as cheap insurance. Hoses also should be added with anew belt.

The screeching might be a slipping belt or a bad water pump as mentioned, the seal/bearing of the water pump could be so worn the pump is hard to turn and belt slips. Again sight is the key.

that is a belt tentioner.it keeps the belts tite.the bearing mite be bad but it shouldnt have any thing to do with a water leak.loosen the belt and try to turn the water pump by hand.the pump will be on front of motor with a radiator hose going to it.if it turns hard or draggs its your pump.if it turns freely with no drag its probily the bearing on the tentioner

Got the photo, looks like an air chamber for the smog pump, the item below the A/C compressor.

Check the drain for the box to drain off water. Or, put a drain into it to drain off water. The gurgling is air being sucked through water. The fitting on top is the inlet to the pump.

I support Clayton's suggestion, tensioner pulley do fail. Replace anyway, cheap insurance.

Ok i'm really new to this car so could you more specific where they are located at. No problem bout the tentioner. lol what kind of motor oil & transmission fluid does it need? thankfully Thomas

Since you're new to the car, the first suggestion I have is to get a Haynes manual for the car from any parts store or book store. This manual is not the best, as in a factory manual, but it will help you familarize yourself with the car.

The box you've circled in the picture, appears to be a an air chamber for the air injection pump. The pump is located below the A/C compressor. This box may have water or fluid inside it giving the gurgling sound. The box may or may noy have a drain for the fluid. If there is a drain, unplug with a length of wire. If no drain, see where the fluid is coming from. If determined rain water is entering, drill a drain hole in the box to allow it to drain.
