i am trying to at least get old 327 fired up and see how it runs. It's been siting for a while and i know that it was not in the best shape when parked. I tried to drop the tank to get it cleaned but rusted bolts stopped me from doing so. I was planing on hooking up a bucket with gas and a hose running from it to the line for fuel just for the start before i can get the gas tank out. Also i found what looked like chewed by mice wire and when i hooked it up i just get sparks when trying to crank. There two wires running to distributor and hook up to terminal labeled BAT. I assume that means battery? Can i just run a wire from the battery straight to it? if i brake the connection cranks no problem

Yes, that is what I would do but be aware your key won't shut it off if you go straight to the batt. You have to yank that hotwire to kill it. Or you could tape up the bare spots on the rat bit wires.

It would be a good idea to cover that carb flange so those turds don't get in your intake.

just cut the bad piece out, and put some electrical tape on it, its a fast fix, and will work if you are just trying to start it

That's a ballast resistor wire that is being used, if your using an hei which is what it looks like to me you can run a new larger gauge wire from any terminal in the fuse box that has power when the key is "on" and stays on after turning it but off when no key is in.
This is a little more complicated than a hot wire straight from the battery but will work well.
What the other guys said will work well, probably better for a first start as you don't know if the fuse box is sound.

thanks for info, i will probably go ahead and jump straight from the battery to make things easier. Then later wire to the fuse box

i wasn't sure if i had the distributer hooked up correctly. I think the order is 18436572 on the distributer but i am not sure from where on it i need to start. Any ideas?

Well, i got new parts for my motor. And i went ahead and started tearing it down to take a look at the pistons and the bore. When i had the valve covers off i decided to look at the casting number on the heads. And it is: 3947041

Also i decided to check if the block is really original 327 but haven't found any casting numbers on it except on the front i found 3 numbers: 388
Also looks like that it is not a small journal block as i didn't see any provision for ventilation on the back of the block.
So far i need to at least figure out what kind of heads i have and if they are any good for keeping. And i still need to find some kind of casting number on the block. Does 388 mean anything?
Also the casting number on the intake is:
346250
10

Is this intake any good, or should i keep the rpm airgap intake that i got now

EDIT: found that those should be good heads but don't compare to new one. So i will probably will be selling them and getting a new set.
EDIT: found the intake is from 76-82 350, anybody wants to buy one?
