I believe the 049's were supposed to be the best flowing large oval port heads chevy made. Thats what I have read. I have a set on my motor but its not in the car yet. They are ported and polished and have larger valves. The guy I bought them from had them on his 67 chevell that did 11.6 in the 1/4. He wanted AFR aluminum heads so I bought them from him.

The 73 BBC Block is a great Hi-Nickel Block. All had the Hi-Perf embossed under the timing chain cover and the rear of the block. It and could be either 2 or 4 bolt - the 2 bolt is just as good but don't expect a forged crank. Either the 049 or 781 head large oval Port was used and capable of 7000rpm breathing. The combustion chamber volume of these heads were the 3/4 open chamber 118cc's but always cc to be sure. The cast crank is much lighter then forged, revs faster and can handle 550Hp at 6800rpm in my opinion. I recommend cross drilling a cast crank if you plan to rev it over 6000rpm.

thx a bunch guys.i was told that the motor only had about 2k miles on a rebuild with a forged crank.the guy got drunk and stuck in the mud and hammered it all night then the next day he heard a knock so he pulled the motor out.the top of heads look brand knew but a bunch of mud doppers bees got in the exaust and made a mess around the valves.what would it take to get 500hp on a budget out of this motor?.thx again for replys
