I am replacing the heater core on my 67 with AC. I have the old foame pad that goes around the inlet and outlet tubes and I am ready to mount the core to the mounting plate I was wondering if there is any seal that goes between the two before I install the two mounting brackets, or is it just core to plate?

I have heard others guys say that there is suppose to be something between them, but I have NEVER seen it on a 67.
I have only seen it core to straps.
If someone says that they are not, I would love to know the date of their car. Mine is installed core to strap.

That's the way mine came out no seal on either side mounting plate to core and core to strap I figured it wasent the original, I wanted to put the new one in the correct way. Thanks Dale

There is a foam gasket between the core and firewall and its purpose is to keep engine compartment fumes outside of the interior and to seal the interior when the hoses are replaced.

Most of the time during core replacement, the foam crumbles into pieces due to age and and the installer doesn't want to spend the time waiting for cut foam to arrive or cut one out from sheet foam.

The core is held in place by two straps and no foam, direct contact.

Rubber Gasket, not foam.

Hi Dale, Any idea who sells the rubber gasket?

No One.
You will have to make yours out of some foam.
Used close cell and black. Ace Hardware will have some.
Foam will Hold paint if you can not find black.
I was lucky, my Rubber seal was in decent shape.
Don't worry that the original was rubber. When you Cut it right, install it and tighten it down. No one will notice it.

People keep talking about straps and I would love a better description of what they are.

The replacement core I bought came with two foam stips and I have no idea what they are for

These are the "Straps"
You can still buy them. I said where in another thread last year.
They attach the heater core to the box.

These "straps" were right up against the heater core, with no rubber spacer. The 2 strips you are talking about are to be used between the straps above and the heater core. Although, I never pulled one out that had them. Can not say that NONE had them, just never worked on one that did. Remember, that heater cores don't usually last 40 years. If you have the strips, some of the aftermarket came with them and you may have one.
