Hey guys/gals,
I am hoping that someone can help me to decode the transmission information for this T-10 4 Speed that I have in my 1971 Nova. I know this is a Camaro forum, but I sold my '68 Camaro a few years back and now have a pretty nice 71 Nova and you guys have all the tech info here so here goes...............
Trying to figure out what gears this baby has and confirm that it is in fact the early model T-10 Corvette tranny and any idea from anyone how much HP and Torque it can handle. Planning on building a small block 396 to put in front of it of about 500 HP and 480/500 lb/ft torque and wonder if she can handle it. I've been told they can handle quite a lot but looking for expert oppinnions.

On the housing (aluminum) Stamped T10D-1 with a circled B and a 2 and then below that I believe the case manufacture date code of L 25 62 which I assume was Christmas day 1962. (man where was their union rep on that day.........LOL)

On the tail section Pat. Pending General Motors Corp. with assembly date of 1-11-63 (which coincides with the casting date of 12-25-62.
T10-7D and ser. no. 3813490.

On the drivers side cover I believe it has either a 1 or an I then 1763A it is very hard to read but that is all I found on the drivers side.

Any help on understanding what I have for a transmission here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This trans will never hold up behind such a stout big block. If there is a raised cast Chevy Bowtie symbol on the tail extension, this would be a Corvette T10 and worth more to a 1963 Corvette.

Sell the T10 to a concours person or Vett collector. Apply $$ to TKO 600 , as a direct bolt in. For a few $$ more you can get the 621 repo bellhousing , for a few more $$$ you can get a McLeod bell housing , All to correctly dial in the TKO.

The 396 would be a stroked SBC but I get your meaning. Thanks for the feedback.

Tell me more about this TKO thing? Never heard of it?
