This is my first post to this forum so hello to all.:hurray:

It started a month ago when I started to notice the classic symptom of the needle rising while sitting in traffic. I had the water pump and thermostat replaced and that seemed to fix it for a short period of time (2 weeks) and then it came back.

2 days ago i had the radiator flushed because it was redlining and didnt seem to be cooling off at all. The needle would raise at a steady pace and never cool down. After they flushed the rad it stayed below the 180 mark while i test drove it on the highway and sat with it idling. Problem solved right.

I hadnt drove it in 2 days and when I took it for a spin it redlined again but not as bad. The top rad hose seemed a little flaccid to me as if the thermo wasnt opening up enough so i just replaced it and the old one did seem stuck. It now stays between the 210 mark and the 3 quarter mark!

What can I do to get the temp to stay back down at the 180 mark?!!!

Any help would be appreciated and I thank you in advance. Sorry for the long post...

Welcome to Team Camaro Steve'O.

What year car? The cooling systems are different between different generations, so it's hard to help without more info.

Maybe in 4th gen, but if it does it will get moved.

Did the shop follow the correct procedures to get all the air out of the system after opening it up? The 4th gens are like most later model GM products in that it can be a real bear to get all the air out, and that can cause problems. I am not certain of the GM procedure for a V6 4th gen, but I'll dig around and see what I can find.

Ok thanks Ill take a look for a procedure to remove the air from the system right now.

Youre right it was air and low coolant. I called them up and they said it was recommended to bring it back after a few days to make sure there wasnt any air in the system. I watched them as they did it and we also noticed that i have a fan relay issue so im going to replace those as well.

Thanks a ton Eric!
