: Does anyone make the muffler hanger for crossflow exhaust?
Musclerodz Aug 8th, 08, 09:45 AM Just bought a new dual exhaust for the '69 vert. Got a hanger kit which sucks because the tailpipe hangers are phyisically too small for the exhaust tubes. Anyways, I have the remains of the muffler hanger, but not all of it and can't find it anywhere. Anyone know if it is being reproduced?
alanrw Aug 8th, 08, 11:23 AM Gardner makes hangers, but I don't know if they sell them separately.

The OE style dual system does not use the muffler hanger on the driver side of the car; just the single exhaust cars used that. Duals just mount to the hangers under the floorpan/axle kickup, and to the tailpipe hangers on the frame rails.
Don't be afraid to open/spread the repro tailpipe hangers to get them over the pipes; I had to do that, then use a longer bolt to draw them around the pipe. After I re-squished it, I put the original shorter bolt back in.

I figured that our after talking with Gardner. THe issue is the clamp is physically too small. Opening it up won't help. The system I was sent was 2 1/4" and I will swear the clamp is for 2". I have already decided to removed the clamp at the spotweld and use a guillitine (sp?) clamp in its place.
I would never have guessed the LM1 350 would have had a single exhaust.
Eric Kammerer Aug 8th, 08, 06:40 PM According to the CRG 69 table, the single exhaust was standard on LM1, with 2" duals as an option.
Are your tailpipes 2 1/4"? Most have the correct 2". At least they used to... I have noticed that the "repro" exhaust systems have really gone downhill from the one I bought for the 68 in 99. Can't even get a repro system for a vert anymore. I spent a lot of time on the phone with Rick's and talked to their current supplier, and then bought a mandrel bent system from Stainless Works. It was far from perfect, and in hindsight I probably should have gone the extra $300 or so for Gardner.
RamAirDave Aug 8th, 08, 07:01 PM The system that Rick's currently sells (well, at least as of earlier this year) isn't very good. D&R supplies a much better system. You won't confuse it with a Gardner, but I have found them to fit/install pretty well.

I think the clamp is correct for the tube until they spot welded it in place and did not account for the tab thickness. I just broke the spot weld and will use another clamp in its place.
The system came from Parts Place off ebay. It has extra long flats too clear the tunnel brace for the verts so that is good. I will report back on fitment once I get it completely installed this weekend.

I broke the spot welds and will be doing something similar.

Any suggestions and where to get the bigger clamps?
Pacecarjeff Apr 5th, 10, 09:49 PM Ames restoration sells a similar clamp for the GTO's in both of those sizes.
If you are going to weld onto your Camaro hangers - they should work just fine.
these are also the correct rear clamps for the 67 -68 dual exhaust Camaros
L137G = 2" $13 per pair
L137H = 2 1/4" $13 per pair
provfirescott Apr 6th, 10, 07:14 AM Called them and they dont have a 2 1/2" bummer
Pacecarjeff Apr 6th, 10, 11:44 AM I bet D&R classic www.Drclassic.com has the larger ones in their chambered exhaust package. give them a call.
