Can anyone direct me to step by step instruction with pictures on how to get the rear axle out of a 10 bolt (and put it back together) in order to replace a leaking axle seal?
This is a standard 10 bolt.
Thanks

I've only done it once and was nervous to do it myself, but it was very easy.
1. remove rear cover and drain fluid, leave a bolt or two at the top of the cover a little loose. You'll need to pry the cover up from the bottom to drain, carefull, this can be a mess.
2. Put rear on jack stands, remove tire(s) and brakes.
3. There's a long bolt or pin that keeps the axles separated in the center of the differential, you may need to spin the axles to get this to come around into view, remove the pin.
4. With the pin removed you can now push the axles in to release the "c" clips. Push the axle in at the wheel mount surface, now when you look in the pumkin you'll see where the c clips fit in a grove near the end of the axle. You need to remove this clip (if it didn't fall out already) and you can pull the axle out.
5. From this point it's pretty much reverse order, the clips can be little buggers, a magnet can help here. Push the axles in, insert c clips, pull axles tight against c clips, insert pin, replace cover and gasket, fill with lube.
Not a hard job at all. If it were me, I would place both seals and bearings on each wheel. My luck with only replacing one means the other will start leaking next week.
Replacing bearings takes a slide hammer, but I think Autozone will loan you one. Remember to smear a little lube or grease on the seal before putting in the axle.
Take your time, look everything over real well, and you'll be done in an afternoon.
