One has 8-DMI-7 and the other one has 1-DMI-7 Charlie DMI stands for "Donnelly Mirror Incorporated" The numbers are the date code, so I believe that: 8-DMI-7 was made in Aug. 67 1-DMI-7 was made in Jan.67 The date codes do not usually agree because the passenger side mirror was not a factory option, so it would have been installed after manuifacturing by either the dealer or the owner red67L78 Aug 11th, 08, 10:15 AM I replaced the repop one on my car cause it was sloppy with the one i got from a swap meet, the one with the 8. The other i had up in the attic that came off a July car. So if i read this right the one with the 1 would be for a 67 and the other one with the 8 would be for a 68 car??? I only have one mirror on my car. I never new about this coding till i had an original one and cleaned it. The repop has no markings bertfam Aug 11th, 08, 10:26 AM the other one with the 8 would be for a 68 car??? Not for a 68 Camaro since the rectangluar mirror was used in 68, but it could be for a 68 Firebird or other Chevrolet model since they continued with the round mirror for at least early 68. The one with the "1" was made in Jan 67, the one with the "8" was made in Aug 67 Hope this clarifies red67L78 Aug 11th, 08, 12:13 PM Did a chevelle have this same type of mirror? The early mirror was not as nice as the other. Thats why i picked the later one for the car. I just did not no that there was dating on mirrors till now. I just did not no that there was dating on mirrors till now. There were two types of mirrors, the standard one without remote control, and the optional one with. They are rather different in shape. The latter is much thicker to accomodate the remote control mechanism According to Paul H. Herd, "Chevrolet Parts Interchange Manual", the 1966/67 Chevelle did use the same mirrors as the 1967 Camaro bertfam Aug 11th, 08, 12:29 PM All 1967 Chevrolet automobiles, and all 1968 Chevrolet automobiles (except the Camaro and the Corvette) used the round mirror as standard equipment. The optional remote mirror for 1967 was round, and the optional remote mirror for 1968 was rectangular. Ed red67L78 Aug 11th, 08, 01:57 PM Bottom line is they are both correct for my car. It's sad when a repop goes bad and a 40year old mirror still works fine. I got tired ajusting the stupid thing all the time. Now it stays in the same local and thats great. Chromes about 85% and does not have that bowtie on it. Thanks for info gents |
