It's almost that time of year again.....

Friday September 12 9am ~ 5pm and Saturday September 13th 8am ~ 8pm 2008 is this years date for the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race held at the Mid-Michigan Motorplex Dragstrip in Stanton Michigan. Spectators pit passes are $15.00 for one day, $30.00 for two days, children 12 and under are free when acompanied by a paying parent. Racing car and driver admission is $100.00 for the two day event. No headers, no slicks, no aftermarket parts under the hood. Please see the web site for the complete rules http://www.purestockdrags.com (http://www.purestockdrags.com/) and other information. This is like a two day car show, but the cars will actually be racing down the drag strip instead of just sitting there and looking pretty. 1955 thru 1974 Muscle Cars doing what they were meant to do, looking good and going fast!! http://www.chevelles.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif

Things are heating up over on the pure stock part of the v8buick web site now that Stanton is getting closer. There's a 68 Ram Air Firebird that is rumoured to be as fast or faster than the lift off hood 440 tri-power Mopars and Hemi cars. Some cars have their engines out for a quickie ring job and a fresh tune-up. The party croud is sure to be there for the Friday night cook out and get together at the motel parking lot. After all, it's the best car show that just happens to be held at the drag strip !! ;)

Just about a week left before the Pure Stock drags at Stanton Michigan. Ought to be some really hot action there since Jimmy Johnson ran a fantastic 11.36 http://www.chevelles.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif @ 121 mph (on F70x15 Firestone bias plys) with his silver 69 L88 Corvette last weekend at the LVD / Hemmings event. Jimmy broke the 4 speed, which left Julie Pennington as the fastest pure stocker with her 1969 orange turbo 400 L88 Vette at 11.63. I'm sure Jimmy will have the trans fixed and Julie will probably lean on the converter a little more to try and go a little faster. There are normally 125 to 150 show quality pure stock racers who make the trip to Stanton for the drags and the party/cookouts in the motel parking lots. All brands of US / Canadian built cars are represented from AMC to Studebaker, with lots of Camaros, Chevelles, Buick, Olds and with plenty Mopars and Fords and Pontiacs thrown in to balance everything out. Contestants usually come from as far as Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Louisiana, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Florida, and from closer, like of course Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. After I attended my first one, I was hooked. I've been to every one I since.

Well, I'm leaving for Stanton before the sun comes up tomorrow morning. After missing another meet years ago because of bad weather being forecast (and it never rained a drop that whole weekend) I'm not going to chance missing another one just because of a lousy forecast.

You know, the weather guys and gals still get paid no matter how far off their predictions are. I'll see everybody at the track.
