Hey guys I have a 1995 Camaro Z with a 6spd tranny. I noticed that my pinion seal is leaking from my diff. How hard is it to change? I know you gotta pull the drive shaft but what else is involved? I was also told to take the pinion nut off but if I do so wontthe pinion move around?

The quick fix is to pull the drive shaft, remove the nut, remove the yoke, swap the seal and put it back together. However, if you do it this way you can't properly set pinion bearing preload. You run the risk of getting it too tight and burning up the bearings or too lose. To do it correctly you'll need to remove the axles, diff, pinion, swap the seal, set pinion bearing preload and reassemble.

Also, once apart, inspect the pinion yoke for a groove where the seal rides. If you can feel it then you probably need a new yoke as well.

As long as you retorque the large pinion nut to 150 ft lbs torque, you'll be OK!

If the yoke is grooved they make a stainless sleeve to go over it.
