purchased a new gas tank and I plan on coating the exterior. Do I need to put a sealer on the inside of a new tank or can I run it as is? Did the factory seal the original tanks.

Thanks

We just replaced ours with a unit from rock auto, did not seal it. Since it was galvenized didn't need to coat the exterior either imo.

Nope, new tanks weren't coated or sealed; they're made from terne-plated steel for corrosion resistance.

What I did was wet sand the exterior to scuff it up and Sprayed on Zinc Chromate Epoxy Under Coat - looks great and will not rust. I soldered in 2 Brass fittings with threaded plugs for draining fuel - very handy.
